How to Create a Portfolio for BITSDAT Interview?

The BITS Design Aptitude Test is conducted in the online mode. However, once students get through the online exam, they will be required to submit their portfolios which will be subject to the conducting authority’s evaluation. Mentioned below are some pointers that you can keep in mind while drafting your BITSDAT Portfolio and what types of portfolio you can create to create a good impression on the interview panel.

Points to Remember While Creating a Portfolio

Portfolios are nothing but a collection of designs, artworks, and visual representations that have made you into the person you are. A portfolio subject to the BITS Portfolio Interview Round should be designed and curated in such a manner that it speaks of a story. A story that represents you and where your interests lie. Here are some pointers that you should take into consideration while drafting your portfolio:

  • You should write an introduction and a conclusion of not more than 100-200 words at the beginning and end of your portfolio, respectively. Explain how you want your profile to be viewed by the panellists or what they should know about you while assessing your portfolio.
  • Select at least 10 to 15 sheets and include them in your portfolio. Out of these 15 designs, at least two of them should be drawn by hand and one should be a computer-generated design.
  • Your portfolio can also include in-process drawings or ideas that can demonstrate why you chose a certain method to curate your profile.

Types of Portfolios

Briefly mentioned below are some examples of the projects or the art pieces that your portfolio can include or things that you can work on as a part of your portfolio-making process:

  • Physical models or prototypes like small-scale models of furniture, buildings, automobiles, jewellery, etc.
  • Small projects like electronics/science/robotics projects that reflect your passion for building things. For example, simple motors, mini cars, paper speakers, science exhibition projects explaining scientific principles, etc.
  • Visual narratives or stories like comic strips, maps, artwork, paintings, photographs, etc. The visuals should have a clear narrative sequence and explain why they were captured.
  • Any apps, websites, or prototypes designed by you. For example, a series of screen grabs depicting how users navigate the app or website.
  • Videos or animations created by you.
  • Please include any images of creative collaborations that you have participated in. For example, theatre, event management, teaching the less privileged, blog posts, or photographs of a journey you have taken, a hand-drawn map, a plan for something you have done at school, a music video, experimentation with food, or a collage for your school magazine.
