How to Obtain a Domicile Certificate for WBJEE 2024: The candidates appearing for WBJEE 2024 will have to submit a domicile certificate to prove their residence place. One can download the Domicile certificate available on the WBJEE official website. The candidate needs to attach it to the application form after registration.

A domicile certificate also referred to as a residential certificate is proof of a residency endowed by the state government. It is a legally predominant document used to prove an individual's residency inhabiting a specific state. The requirement for a Domicile Certificate for WBJEE or residential certificate for admission to a different degree level of education such as engineering/ technology. The WBJEE domicile certificate is for the candidate who has stayed in West Bengal for more than 10 years or whose parents are permanent residents of West Bengal.

Domicile Requirements for WBJEE 2024

Candidates must check the WBJEE 2024 eligibility criteria before applying for the exam. The table below highlights the requirements of WBJEE Domicile Certificate 2024 for the candidates willing to be admitted into the participating colleges of WBJEE .

How to Obtain a Domicile Certificate?

The certificate must be signed & certified by either the central or the state government of India, having local jurisdiction over the permanent residence of the candidate or his/ her parents, presumptively.

Proforma a1 and Proforma b-

  • District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Deputy Magistrate, Deputy Collector, Sub Development Officer, and Block Development Officer.
  • Superintendent of Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sub-divisional Police Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police.
  • Commissioner and Additional Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Commissioner.
  • Judicial Magistrate of any rank or position in the concerned district or locality or high court of Kolkata or supreme court of India.
  • Corporation area: Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Additional Commissioner.
  • Assistant Secretary or above in the secretariat to the government of West Bengal or India
  • Deputy director or above in the directorate to the State and Central Government.
  • The duplicate copy of the certificate is to be kept with the office of the certificate-issuing authority for future references and verifications if needed.

Point to be noted: Residential certificates issued by any political party representative such as MLA, MP, or any elected people’s representative e.g. Municipal Commissioner, Councilor of the Municipal Corporation or Municipality, or a member of a three-tier Panchayat System.

Proforma a2- The residential or Domicile Certificate for WBJEE can be obtained from the head of the institution from where the candidate has completed or (will attend) his/ her 10th and 12th examination. This certificate may be issued based on the verification that has to be done on the school education of the respective candidate. The proforma for such certificates are available on the website and to get that, the students have to download it.

WBJEE 2024 Domicile Proforma

The pointers below show the domicile proforma for WBJEE 2024 -

  1. Candidates will be treated under WBJEE 2024 domicile Proforma only if they prove that they hold a permanent residency of West Bengal for 10 years or more as of December 31, 2023.
  2. The parents of the candidates should be residents of West Bengal and maintain a permanent address.
  3. In cases where the above criteria are satisfied, candidates must fill it up in WBJEE domicile Proforma A1 or A2.
  4. The mentioned documents must prove the residence of the candidate's parents in West Bengal for 10 years.
  5. If the above information provided is correct, candidates are mandated to submit any of the two documents mentioned below:
  • Aadhaar card
  • Voter card
  • Passport
  • Ration card

Exception for WBJEE 2024 Domicile Certificate

The exceptions for presenting the domicile certificates for WBJEE 2024 have been listed below in the pointers.

  • When applying for WBJEE, candidates need to attach a certificate to prove where they are from.
  • If you belong to SC, ST, or OBC categories, you can attach a certificate proving your category instead of the domicile certificate.
  • However, if the certificate doesn't prove its validity, your Domicile Certificate for WBJEE will be marked as non-West Bengal.
  • Please note that certificates issued by local government officials like municipal corporations, counsellors, MLAs, MPs, or GTAs will not be accepted.
  • Instead, you need to get the Domicile Certificate for WBJEE (Proforma 'a2') from the head of your school or college.
  • This certificate will be verified by the authorities based on your academic records.
