IIT Bombay MDes Eligibility Criteria 2024

Students applying for IIT Bombay MDes admission 2024 must check the eligibility criteria beforehand. Check out the basic requirements below:

  • Marks Requirement : Students belonging to the General category must have scored a minimum of 55% in their respective discipline. While students from the reserved category are required to have attained 50% aggregate marks.
  • CEED Qualification : Students are also required to have qualified for the CEED entrance exam to be eligible for admission at IIT Bombay.

Specialisation

Eligibility Criteria

Animation Design
  1. The candidate should have an undergraduate degree in Design/ Architecture/ Engineering/ Interior Design done in the pattern of 10+2+4 years. B Plan is considered equivalent to B Arch and the UG degree must be of four years.
  2. The applicant should have completed a four-year BSc degree in Engineering which is considered equivalent to BTech or BE.
  3. Candidates who have a Professional Diploma in Design completed in the pattern of 10+2+4 years are also eligible.
  4. Applicants with a BFA degree of the duration of four years (done after class 12th) can also apply.
  5. The candidate should have completed GD Art (a four-year program done after a year of the foundation after class 10th) are eligible as well.
Communication Design
  1. The student should have an undergraduate degree in Design/ Architecture/ Engineering/ Interior Design done in the pattern of 10+2+4 years. B Plan is considered equivalent to B Arch and the graduation degree must be of at least four years.
  2. The candidate should have completed a four-year B Sc degree in Engineering which is considered equivalent to B Tech or B E
  3. Applicants who have a Professional Diploma in Design completed in the pattern of 10+2+4 years are also eligible.
  4. Those candidates who have a BFA degree of the duration of four years (done after class 12th) can also apply.
  5. The students should have completed GD Art (a four-year programme done after a year of the foundation after class 10th) are eligible as well.
Industrial Design
  1. The student must have a bachelor’s degree in Design/ Architecture/ Interior Design/ Engineering of a duration of at least four years. Candidates with a BPlan are also considered equivalent to the degree of BArch.
  2. A BSc degree in Engineering which is four years long and is considered equivalent to BE or BTech is also acceptable. Candidates who have this degree done after class 12th in the pattern 10+2+4 can apply for this specialisation.
  3. Students who have completed a Professional Diploma in Design for a minimum duration of four years are also eligible.
Interaction Design
  1. Students have to complete their undergraduate degree in any of the following streams: Interior Design/ Architecture/ Engineering/ Design. B Plan is also an acceptable degree and the duration of whichever UG degree the candidate obtains should be at least four years.
  2. The candidates who have a four-year-long BSc in Engineering degree done after HSC and considered equivalent to BTech/ BE are eligible as well.
  3. Candidates should have a Professional Diploma in Design which is completed in the pattern of 10+2+4 years.
  4. The institute also accepts a four-year-long BFA degree completed after class 12th.
  5. Those candidates who have a master’s degree in science or arts are done in the pattern of 10+2+3+2 (3-year graduation and 2-year postgraduate after class 12th) can apply as well. The degree of MCA is also accepted for admission to the course.
  6. Students who have completed GD Art in four years after 1 year of foundation programme after clearing class 10th are also eligible.
Mobility and Vehicle Design
  1. The applicant must essentially have a bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Design/ Architecture/ Interior Design/ Bachelor of Planning (B Plan) in the 10+2+4 years pattern.
  2. The candidate should have completed a B Sc degree in Engineering which should be of the duration of four years and is equivalent to either BE or BTech.
  3. The student has to complete a Professional Diploma in Design over four years after class 12th. The duration of the diploma course must not be less than four years.
  4. Candidates with a degree of BFA in Sculpture (a four-year professional programme completed after clearing the 10+2 level) are also eligible to apply.

IIT Bombay MDes Admission Process

  • Step 1. Qualify for entrance exam : Students are required to qualify for the CEED entrance exam to get into the IIT Bombay MDes program.
  • Step 2. Apply : They are required to apply with a valid CEED 2024 score.
  • Step 3. Merit List : The conducting body issues a category-wise merit list for each MDes stream.
  • Step 4. Call List : Candidates selected will find their names in the call list for MDes.

IIT Bombay MDes Selection Process 2024
