A network of physical objects which are connected to the internet and by extension is called Internet of Things (IoT). These physical objects include electronic items, smartphones, watches and sensors which transmit the data to the cloud via the Internet, providing a smarter experience to the user. IDC, a Research Firm had earlier confirmed that the worldwide market of IoT would grow from $655.8 billion in 2014 to $1.7 trillion in 2020.
Due to the advancement of technology, the IoT is playing a significant role in the learning and education domain. Through the efficient use of technology, it is very easy to create the infrastructure that can meet the education-related needs of the country. Recently, the government introduced smart classes in government schools to change the face of education. The quality of the education can be improved through the effective implementation of IoT with outright accountability. It enables the teachers to address the students remotely through video conferencing and other systems.

The IoT is playing a major role in the day to day activities of people and will play a significant role in future too. The prevalence of IoT in the education sector is increasing, and the classrooms are not only confined to traditional methods of teaching but also extend to the smart ways of teaching.
The drop-out rate in the schools can be reduced if every student finds joy in going to school. It is possible by using high-quality digital materials. Tablets, computers and smartphones are not only limited to entertainment but also effective learning. Online education saves the cost, effort and time.
Most of the institutes in India have started developing infrastructure to enable ICT-based education. Some of the institutes even directed the students to bring their device as a trend to enhance the connectivity and take the education to the next level. These institutions are leveraging on smart classes, robotics, Wi-Fi coverage and constant connectivity.

One must remember the fact that an increased adoption of connected devices by the students and teachers will lead to constraint issues on their smartphones and email accounts. So, the institutions must also plan for robust data storage which will enable to store large amounts of data.
Data analysis, data storage, technology, an efficient network for data transmission are the four critical elements essential to enable IoT in the education sector. For this purpose, innovate drive technologies are necessary to promote reliability and performance and to deliver the highest possible capacities that education institutions require. There is a need for the installation of accurate storage product portfolio which includes Solid State Hybrid Drive (SSHD), Solid State Drive (SSD) and Hard Disc Drive (HDD). On the other hand, institutions need a well-organised video-surveillance IoT infrastructure.

Apart from the above, the IoT has to provide better operational efficiency in every type of learning environment. Through connected devices, the educators can perform dynamic classroom interventions along with classroom discipline.
Gartner report states that, by 2020, India is expected to generate 5-6% of the global pie of the total revenue from the IoT industry. The key contributor to this growth will be education sector.
