ITI Physiotherapy Technician Syllabus

ITI Physiotherapy Technician Syllabus: Physiotherapy technician courses are provided across the country by ITIs under the CTS. In this full-time, one-year course, students will be trained on Professional Skill, Professional Knowledge and Employability Skills related to the job role. During the Secretarial Practice Course, students are taught all aspects of what it takes to become a Physical Therapist; also known as Assistant Physiotherapist in Healthcare.

There are two main parts: Domain and Core. Professional skills such as trade theory and practicals are imparted in the Domain area of the course, while life skills such as employability skills are imparted in the Core area of the course. DGT issues a National Trade Certificate (NTC) after the trainee completes the training program.

Syllabus of ITI Physiotherapy Technician: Semester-wise Topics

The ITI (Industrial Training Institute) Physiotherapy Technician program syllabus is typically divided into various subjects/modules taught over semesters. After completing the program, students will gain the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and clinical exposure required to work as proficient Physiotherapy Technicians.

First Semester

In the first semester of the ITI Physiotherapy Technician program, introductory subjects such as “Basics of Pathology”, "Anatomy and Physiology", and "Biomechanics and Kinesiology", are included.

Second Semester

In the second semester of ITI Physiotherapy Technician training, students take theoretical and practical subjects such as "Neurological Physiotherapy" and "Therapeutic Modalities".

ITI Physiotherapy Technician 1st Semester Topics

  • Basics of Pathology: Introduction to common diseases, injuries, and pathological conditions that require physiotherapy intervention.
  • Fundamentals of Physiotherapy: Introduction to physiotherapy, history, principles, and scope of physiotherapy practices.
  • Anatomy and Physiology: Basics of human anatomy and physiology focusing on the musculoskeletal, nervous, and circulatory systems.
  • Biomechanics and Kinesiology: Study of movement and mechanics of the human body.
  • Communication Skills and Patient Care: Communication techniques for interacting with patients, understanding their needs, and providing empathetic care.

ITI Physiotherapy Technician 2nd Semester Topics

  • Exercise Therapy: Learning therapeutic exercises, their application, and progression in different patient scenarios.
  • Neurological Physiotherapy: Understanding neurological conditions and rehabilitation approaches for patients with neurological disorders.
  • Orthopedic Physiotherapy: Focus on musculoskeletal disorders, assessment techniques, and rehabilitation strategies for orthopedic conditions.
  • Therapeutic Modalities: Understanding and practical application of various physiotherapy modalities such as heat, cold, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, etc.

ITI Physiotherapy Technician 3rd Semester Topics

  • Clinical Practice II: Further practical training in a clinical environment, gaining more experience in implementing treatment plans and patient management.
  • Community-Based Rehabilitation: Understanding the role of physiotherapy in community health programs, outreach, and promoting health awareness.
  • Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy: Study of cardiac and respiratory conditions, and physiotherapy interventions for patients with these conditions.

ITI Physiotherapy Technician Eligibility Criteria

Students interested in pursuing a diploma in ITI Physiotherapy Technician course must have at least a class 10th qualification. ITI's Physiotherapy Technician course eligibility requirements are listed below:

  • Passed 10th Class (recognised board and institute)
  • Candidates must be able to speak both English and Hindi fluently.

Dear student, ITI courses are not considered equivalent to a higher secondary education (12th grade) or a diploma, which are often prerequisites for direct entry into a B.Tech program. However, your ITI background could be beneficial for certain lateral entry or diploma programs, which could then lead to a B.Tech.
