JEE Main Mechanics Important Questions

Many JEE applicants complain that it is challenging to achieve good scores in the JEE Main Physics section because they are pretty difficult and involves a lot of math. By solving these JEE Main Mechanics important questions with solutions and explanations students will develop the correct approach on how to attempt these questions. In addition, they will learn how to solve these questions efficiently and manage their time accuracy in the real-time JEE Main 2024 exam.

Go through and attempt the following Mechanics Important Questions for JEE Mains with Solutions.

Q1-  A river flows at a rate of 5 m / min from west to east. A man on the river’s south bank, competent at swimming at 10 m / min in calm water, wants to swim throughout the river in the shortest time. In which specific direction should the man swim to reach his destination?

a) due north
b) 30° west of north
c) 30° east of north
d) 60° east of north

Solution. Time to cross river = t

t = d / vs cos θ

For time t to be minimum, cos should be at its maximum.

∴ θ should be 0.

Hence, the swimmer should swim due north. The correct answer is option A.

Q2- A particle moves in simple harmonic motion at frequency f. Its kinetic energy oscillates at frequency.

a) f/2

b) f

c) 2f

d) 4f

Soultion- The kinetic energy of a particle conducting simple harmonic motion will be maximum twice throughout one entire oscillation.

The correct answer is 2f.K.E. oscillation frequency = 2f

Q3-  A 0.2-kilogramme ball is suspended from a 5 m vertical. A bullet with a mass of 0.01 kg and a horizontal velocity of V m/s collides with the centre of the ball. Following the contact, the bullet and ball move separately. They strike the ground at a distance of 20 metres and the bullet at a distance of 100 metres from the post’s foot. The bullet’s initial velocity V is

a) 250 m/s

b) 250 √2 m/s

c) 400 m/s

d) 500 m/s

Solution. Assume time taken by bullet to fall = t½ gt = 5

T = 1 sec

Vball x 1= 20; Vball = 20 m/s

Vbullet x 1= 100; Vbullet = 100 m/s

M bullet V = M bullet V bullet + M ball V ball

0.01v = 0.01 x 100 + 0.2 x 20

0.01v = 1 + 4 = 5

∴ V = 500 m/s

Therefore, correct answer is option D

Q4- A substance travels from place A to place B in 1.0 seconds, travelling in a semicircle of radius 1.0 m, as indicated in the figure. The average velocity has the following magnitude:

a) 3.14 m/sec

b) 1.0 m/sec

c) 2.0 m/sec

d) zero

Solution- Average velocity = displacement / time

= 2r / t

= 2 x 1 / 1

= 2 m/sec

Hence, the option C is the correct answer

Q5- In a horizontal circular path, two substances of equal mass begin travelling in different directions from a spot A. The tangential velocities of both the substances are v and 2v, respectively. The substances move at constant rates between impacts. After how many elastic interactions, other than the one at A, would these two particles return to the place A?

a) 4

b) 3

c) 2

d) 1

Solution: The correction answer is option C

Q6- Find the right relationship between W1, W2 and W3, wherein W1, W2 and W3 reflect the work done in shifting the material from point A to B via three paths 1, 2, and 3. What will be the gravitational attraction of the point with mass ‘m’.

a) W1 = W2 = W3

b) W2 >W1 >W3

c) W1 < W2 < W3

d) W1>W2>W3

Solution- In a conservative field, the work performed W is unaffected by the route (from A to B). The starting and ending points determine it. Thus the correct answer is the option a, W1=W2 = W3.

Q7-  A particle moves in a simple harmonic motion between the values x = -A and x = +A. T1 is the time it takes to move from 0 to A/2, and T2 is the time it takes to move from A/2 to A. Then

a) T1 < T2
b) T1 > T2
c)T1 = T2
d) T1 = 2T2

Ans. Option a is the correct answer. When the particle moves from the mean position to the absolute position, its velocity decreases from maximum to zero.

Q5-  If a machine is oil-lubricated,

a) the machine’s mechanical energy is enhanced.

b) the machine’s mechanical efficiency improves.

c) Its mechanical energy and efficiency both improve.

d) its efficacy rises while its mechanical advantage falls.

Solution. When a machine is lubricated with oil, friction is reduced. As a result, the machine’s mechanical efficiency improves. Therefore, Option B is the correct answer
