An Overview of Kinetic Theory of Gases

The Kinetic Theory of Gases refers to a theoretical model which describes the molecular composition of the gas in terms of a large number of submicroscopic particles, which comprises atoms and molecules. Moreover, the theory states that gas pressure arises due to particles colliding with each other and the walls of the container. The Kinetic theory of gases describes properties such as temperature, volume and pressure, in addition to transport properties such as viscosity thermal conductivity and mass diffusivity. The theory describes all the properties which are related to the microscopic phenomenon.

The importance of the theory lies in the fact that it helps in developing a correlation between the macroscopic properties and the microscopic phenomenon. In simple terms, the kinetic theory of gases also helps candidates study the action of the molecules. Generally, the molecules of gases are always in motion, and they tend to collide with each other and the walls of the containers. In addition, the theory also helps in understanding related phenomena, like the Brownian motion.

Assumptions of Kinetic Theory of Gases

  • The collisions between gas molecules or between a molecule and the container are completely elastic.
  • The mass of gas molecules is negligible. Hence, the effect of gravity and gravitational force on each other can be neglected.
  • The Volume of molecules is considered to be negligible.
  • Collision between molecules is governed by Newton’s Law of Motion (i.e. Net force = Change in momentum per unit time)
  • The interaction force between particles is negligible. (That is, they exert no forces on one another.)
  • Molecules are considered to be in constant, random, and rapid motion. So, the average velocity of particles in all the 3-directions will be zero i.e. = ==0

With a COMEDK rank of 41,000, it's unlikely you will get B.Tech ISE (Information Science and Engineering) at SIT Tumkur, especially in the first round. The Siddaganga Institute of Technology admission cutoff for B.Tech ISE is usually lower and within the 15,000th rank. The COMEDK 2024 cutoff at SIT Tumkur for BTech ISE was 10154, the 2023 cutoff was 8223, and the 2022 cutoff was 7400. If you are looking for a B.Tech Information Science and Engineering seat with a 41k COMEDK rank, you can consider other colleges like Acharya Institute of Technology-Soladevanahalli, Bengaluru, AMC Engineering College-Bannerghatta Rd, Bengaluru, Bapuji …
