NTA sets the NEET 2023 new rules and regulations every year to streamline the exam conduction process. This year NTA has made some key changes and set some new rules in NEET eligibility criteria 2023 , application fees, exam cities, tie-breaking criteria, address proof, and NEET dress code 2023. Students need to have a sound understanding of the new rules of NEET 2023 so that they are not left wondering about the same.

Last year, major changes such as the removal of the upper age limit and extension in exam time from 3 hours to 3 hours and 20 minutes were done. Students are advised to strictly adhere to the guidelines and NEET 2023 new rules set by the officials to avoid facing any issues at the exam centre. One must keep these regulations in mind as the exams are around the corner and NEET admit card 2023 was published on May 4, 2023.

NEET 2023 New Rules - Before the Exam Day

There are several changes in NEET 2023 new rules that are applicable before the exam day. Given below are the NEET new rules applicable from this year.

Increase in Application Fees

The NEET application form 2023 fee was increased this year from INR 1,600 to INR 1,700 for the General-category students. Aspirants belonging to EWS and OBC-NCL categories were required to pay INR 1,600 as compared to 1,500 from last year. Finally, candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwD, and third gender categories had to pay fees of INR 1,000 as compared to 800 from last year.

Change in Eligibility Criteria

NTA introduced a major change for Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and Foreign Nationals. They are now eligible to secure admission to Medical/ Dental/ Ayurveda/ Siddha/ Unani/ Homeopathy colleges based on rules applied by the respective state governments, institutions as well as the Government of

India. Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons with Indian Origin (PIO), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and Foreign Nationals are now eligible to apply for their caste category seats and not solely rely on the NRI quota.

Need to Upload Address Proof

As per the NEET 2023 new rules, students now have to upload present and permanent resident proof while applying online. One can submit their AADHAAR Card, Passport, Voter ID card, Domicile Certificate, etc.

NEET 2023 New Rules - During the Exam Day

One must note down the following NEET 2023 new rules for the main exam day.

Decrease in the Exam Cities

As per the NEET 2023 new rules, the number of exam cities has been reduced to 485 Indian cities and 14 cities abroad. Earlier, the NEET exam was held across 543 cities. A decrease in 58 Indian cities has been witnessed while the number of overseas cities number remains the same.

Clarification on Medium of Question Paper

NTA clarified to students that candidates who have opted only for English medium paper will be given the booklet in the same language while other aspirants who have opted for Hindi or any other regional language will be provided with a bilingual booklet. While the first language will be the regional language chosen by the candidates, the other option will be mandatorily in the English language. Students must note that English and Hindi papers will be provided in white color while the regional languages will be in yellow colour. Candidates opting for the Urdu language will be given the booklet in green color.

Will NEET 2023 be held Twice?

NEET 2023 exam will not be conducted twice and aspirants have to appear for the test on the set day. NTA officials aim to restore back the timelines as they were before the pandemic struck the nation.

NEET 2023 Dress Code

Students have to follow a strict dress code of NEET 2023 as it is a crucial part of NEET 2023 new rules. Given below is the bifurcation for NEET 2023 dress code for male and female aspirants.

NEET 2023 Dress Code for Male Candidates

  • Male candidates must wear light clothes like pants, shirts (half sleeves only), jeans, etc.
  • Aspirants must not wear anything that will create hindrance in frisking
  • The shirt button must be of medium size and not big
  • Students must only wear sandals or sleepers as shoes are not allowed
  • Wearing Kurta Payjama is not allowed

NEET 2023 Dress Code for Female Candidates

  • Female aspirants must wear light clothes with half sleeves without big buttons, flowers, brooch/badges, etc.
  • Slippers and sandals with low heels have been allowed
  • Female candidates are now allowed to wear shoes to the test centre

Apart from the above NEET 2023 rules on the exam day, students who have customary requirements need to declare the same earlier while filling out the application form. No last-minute requests are entertained unless approved by the official authorities.

NEET 2023 New Rules - After the Exam Day

As of now, only 1 major change has been introduced as per the NEET 2023 new rules. The NEET 2023 tie-breaking criteria have been modified. NTA has removed the NEET tie-breaking policy for age and application number criteria. The modified NEET UG tie-breaking criteria are -

  • Students obtaining higher marks/ percentile in the biology subject are given preference, followed by chemistry and physics subjects
  • If the tie still exists, students who have attempted less number of incorrect answers are given a preference
  • Students who have got less number of incorrect answers as well as correct answers in biology are given preference, which is followed by chemistry, and physics.
