How to Calculate NEET Cutoff 2025?

The calculation of the NEET 2025 cutoff is a complex process that takes into account several factors. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is responsible for setting the cutoff score for NEET each year based on the following parameters:

  • Number of Candidates: The cutoff score is determined based on the total number of candidates who appeared for the NEET 2025 exam.
  • Difficulty Level of the Exam: The difficulty level of the question paper is taken into account while calculating the cutoff score. If the exam is more difficult, then the cutoff score may be lower, and vice versa.
  • Number of Seats: The number of seats available for admission to medical and dental courses in various colleges is another crucial factor in determining the cutoff score. If the number of seats is less and the competition is high, then the cutoff score may be higher.
  • Category of the Candidate: The NEET 2025 cutoff score varies for different categories of students, such asthe  General, OBC, SC, and ST categories. The cutoff score for each category is calculated separately based on the reservation policy of the Government of India.

Once these factors are taken into account, the NTA will arrive at a cutoff score for each category of students. The cutoff score for the general category is usually higher than that of the reserved categories, as the competition is higher among the general category candidates. The cutoff scores for each category are usually announced after the NEET 2025 results are declared.

Steps to Calculate NEET 2025 Cutoff

As per the National Testing Agency, a percentile rank depicts the percentage of scores falling below a given score in the group. It applies a formula to determine the NEET cutoff percentile 2025:

Percentile Rank for NEET = (Number of applicants who appeared with a raw score equal to or less than the candidate) / (Total number of appearing applicants) x 100

NEET 2025 Cutoff: Tie-breaking Process

Often, it is seen that one or more students end up scoring the same marks in NEET Exams, but the ranks received on the final list differ. This is because the NEET UG Rank cannot be the same for two aspirants. The exam-conducting authority ensures this by applying the NEET Tie-breaking rules in order of preference. These are as follows:

  • The candidate receiving a higher score in Biology is assigned a higher rank

  • The candidate securing more marks in Chemistry is ranked higher

  • The applicant with the lesser number of incorrect answers is given a higher rank

  • If all of the above rules fail to break the tie, the candidate senior in terms of age is positioned at a higher rank

Factors Determining the NEET 2025 Cutoff

Several factors determine the NEET 2025 cutoff scores. Students can find the NEET 2025 determining factors mentioned below.
  1. Number of candidates: The total number of candidates appearing for the NEET 2025 exam will be a crucial factor in determining the cutoff. A larger number of candidates usually leads to a higher cutoff.
  2. Difficulty level of the exam: The difficulty level of the NEET 2025 exam will also play a significant role in determining the cutoff. If the exam is tough, the cutoff will be lower, and vice versa.
  3. Number of seats: The total number of seats available for admission in various medical and dental colleges will also affect the cutoff. A larger number of seats may lead to a lower cutoff.
  4. Previous year cutoff: The NEET cutoff of the previous year will also be considered while determining the cutoff for NEET 2025. It will provide a baseline for the cutoff and help in setting the minimum qualifying marks.
  5. Reservation policy: The reservation policy for various categories, such as SC, ST, OBC, and Pw, will also have an impact on the NEET 2025 cutoff.
  6. Performance of candidates: The overall performance of candidates in the NEET 2025 exam will also affect the cutoff. If the performance of candidates is good, the cutoff will be higher, and vice versa.

NEET 2025 Cutoff Under 15% All India Quota

In India, 15% of the total seats in the government medical and dental colleges are reserved for candidates under the All India Quota. These seats are filled by candidates who qualify for the 15% quota as mentioned on the NEET 2025 Scorecard.

NEET 2025 Cutoff Under 85% State Quota

In all the states across India, 85% of the total medical seats in government colleges are accessible to candidates belonging to the respective state. Therefore, these seats are reserved only for candidates of those particular states. For instance, a candidate taking the NEET exam from West Bengal will be eligible for admission to government colleges in West Bengal under the 85% State quota.

Thus, the NEET 2025 counselling process for admission of aspirants to 85% of the medical college seats under the State quota will be conducted by the respective state counselling authorities and will only be open to native candidates.

Validity of NEET Cutoff Marks 2025

Just like everything else in this universe, NEET cutoff scores also come with an expiration date. You cannot use scores from one year for any or every academic year. The scores are only valid for the current academic year. After that, they expire and cannot be used for the next academic year. For instance, if you appeared in NEET 2025 and scored XYZ scores, you can only get admission based on your marks in the academic year of 2025. The usage of these same scores for 2023 admissions will not be entertained.
