The ranking system takes into account the total marks obtained by the candidate and ranks them in order of merit. The NEET 2024 ranking system includes two types of ranks - the All India Rank (AIR) and the State Quota Rank (SQR). The AIR is the overall rank obtained by the candidate across the country, whereas the SQR is the rank obtained by the candidate in the state they have applied for admission. NEET 2024 Ranking System – NEET Tie Breaker Criteria
When the competition is so high, the chances of two or more students securing identical marks are quite high. In such an event, the NEET tie-breaker rule by NTA will be applicable to resolve the tie and assign individual ranks to them. Based on these rules, in the order stated below, each student will be assigned a rank. The tie-breaker criteria are as follows
If two or more candidates end up scoring the same marks, their Biology marks will be taken as a tie-breaker and the candidate who gets a higher score in Biology will be assigned a higher rank.
If that fails to break the tie, then their Chemistry marks will be taken into consideration. The student securing higher marks in Chemistry will be awarded a higher rank.
If the tie remains unresolved, then the marks obtained in Physics will be considered and the one who has higher scores on the subject will get the higher position.
Next, to further resolve the tie, the candidate who answers the maximum number of questions correctly will be assigned a higher rank.
In case the tie among students exists even then, the candidate with the lesser number of wrong answers in Biology will rewarded a higher rank.
If that fails to break the tie, the next will step will be to calculate the number of incorrect responses in Chemistry. Whoever answers the least number of wrong questions in Chemistry will get the higher rank.
If the tie persists even then, the number of correct responses in Physics will be calculated. The candidate with the least number of incorrect answers in Physics will be assigned a higher rank.
In case that fails to break the tie, the age of the candidate will be taken into consideration and the older candidate will be assigned a higher rank.
Lastly, if the tie remains unresolved, candidates will be assigned a higher rank based on the ascending order of their NEET application number.
NEET 2024 Ranking System – How to Calculate NEET Percentile Score
NEET percentile simply denotes how many students taking the entrance exam have scored less or more than a particular candidate. It is calculated in comparison to the NEET raw score of the topper and represents the candidate's position below the NEET topper and above others.
If you know your NEET score, it will be easier for you to find out the percentile scores using the following formula:
P = Percentile
N = Total number of applicants taking the test
R = Rank obtained by the competitor
Then, P = [(N – P)/P] X 100
Thus, if a candidate has secured the 50th rank in NEET 2024 and 5,00,000 applicants have appeared for the exam, then
P = [(5,00,000 – 50)/5,00,000] x 100
Percentile Scores (P) = 99.99
