NID DAT 2024: The National Institute of Design (NID) conducted the NID DAT 2024 to select students for their Bachelor of Design (BDes) and Master of Design (MDes) programs across various campuses. The exam process consisted of two stages: DAT Prelims and DAT Mains . Approximately 15,000 candidates participated in the DAT Prelims. Only those who were shortlisted from this stage advanced to the DAT Mains. The DAT Prelims, held on December 24, 2023, was generally considered to have a moderate level of difficulty, although some candidates noted that the paper was lengthy. Currently, the BDes program accepts 425 students across five campuses: NID Ahmedabad, NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Madhya Pradesh, and NID Assam. Meanwhile, the MDes program offers 347 seats spread across three campuses: NID Ahmedabad, NID Gandhinagar, and NID Bengaluru.

NID DAT 2025 Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the B.Des and M.Des programs at NID, candidates needed to fulfil the specific eligibility requirements for the NID DAT 2024 exam. These criteria were established to ensure that applicants possess the essential educational qualifications for pursuing design studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

  • To be eligible, candidates need to be born on or after July 1, 2004.
  • For those in the reserved categories—Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), and Scheduled Tribe (ST)—the birth date requirement was on or after July 1, 2001.
  • Candidates with disabilities (PwD) were required to be born on or after July 1, 1999.
  • Additionally, foreign nationals applying for admission under the Overseas (Supernumerary) Category had to meet the same birth date requirement of being born on or after July 1, 2004.
  • The candidates were required to be born on or after July 1, 1992.
  • However, there were different age criteria for various reserved categories. For those belonging to the Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), or Scheduled Tribe (ST), the birth date needed to be on or after July 1, 1989.
  • Candidates with disabilities (PwD) had to be born on or after July 1, 1987.
  • Additionally, foreign nationals applying under the Overseas (Supernumerary) Category were also required to be born on or after July 1, 1992.

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates were required to have a four-year bachelor's degree after completing their 12th standard from a recognized institute or university.
  • Students needed to complete a full-time, four-year diploma in design, arts, fine arts, applied arts, or architecture.
  • Applicants had to pass a three-year bachelor's degree in any specialization from a recognized board.
  • Final-year bachelor's students who had not yet received their certificates were also eligible, provided they submitted their certificates by the specified date set by the authorities.

NID DAT 2024 Application Process

The National Institute of Design (NID) began accepting online applications for the NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) 2024 on September 8, 2023. The final day to apply without a late fee was December 1, 2023. However, applications were still accepted with a late fee until December 3, 2023.

Candidates needed to follow these steps to complete the application form for NID DAT 2024 :

  • Registration: Applicants had to register or sign up to access the application form.
  • Login and Form Filling: After registering, they logged in to fill out the NID application form.

  • Upload Documents: Necessary documents and signatures, adhering to specified dimensions, were uploaded.
  • Payment: The NID application fee was then paid to complete the process.

NID DAT 2024 Admit Card

On December 12, 2023, the National Institute of Design (NID) released the admit cards for the NID DAT 2024 Prelims for both B.Des and M.Des programs. Candidates needed to provide their email addresses and birthdates to download their admit cards. The NID DAT 2024 admit card included crucial details such as the candidate's name and roll number, the exam center's name and address, the exam date and time, and guidelines for the exam day.

The NID DAT 2024 Prelims exam took place across 22 cities. The list of these cities was provided in the NID DAT 2024 Admission Handbook and is mentioned in the table given below. For the M.Des program, the NID DAT Mains exam occurred at NID Ahmedabad, NID Gandhinagar, and NID Bengaluru. Meanwhile, the B.Des NID DAT 2024 Mains Studio Test was held in five cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Kolkata, and Kurukshetra. Candidates had the opportunity to choose their test centres between April 8, 2024 (4 pm) and April 10, 2024, with allocations made on a first-come, first-served basis.

NID DAT Prelims 2024 M.Des Exam Analysis

According to feedback from students who took the NID DAT exam, the question paper contained some unexpected topics, similar to previous years. Most students found the questions to be easy to understand. However, the exam was quite lengthy, with an above-average difficulty level. The anticipated cut-off for the "Product" section was expected to be around 40-45. The exam was divided into two parts: Part A lasted 15 minutes, and Part B lasted 135 minutes, comprising 9 questions in total.

NID DAT 2024 Result

The NID DAT 2024 results for the Prelims were announced online. The results for the M.Des courses were released on February 16, 2024, and for the B.Des courses, the results came out on April 4, 2024. Candidates were required to log in with their application number and date of birth to check their results. The NID DAT 2024 Mains results were declared on April 30, 2024, for M.Des and on May 21, 2024, for B.Des. The final results were compiled by the authorities based on the scores from both the Prelims and Mains exams. Candidates who made it to the final merit list were selected for further interview and admission rounds. Additionally, the authorities provided a short-term result rechecking facility.

Final Result of NID DAT 2024

The final results were based on the candidates' performances in both NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT Mains. If a candidate did not qualify for NID DAT Prelims or did not appear in NID DAT Mains, they were excluded from the NID DAT 2024 Mains results. Additionally, only candidates who qualified in DAT Mains were eligible to participate in NID DAT 2024 counselling.

NID DAT 2024 Merit List

The final merit list was determined by the combined weightage of marks from both the Prelims and Mains examinations. Only those candidates whose names appeared on the merit list would be eligible to participate in the interview rounds. The NID DAT 2024 merit list was published separately for each category of candidates. No hard copies of the scorecards were provided to any candidate.

NID DAT 2024 Cutoff

The National Institute of Design announced the 2024 cutoff scores for its B.Des program on admissions.nid.edu. For admission to NID Ahmedabad, the closing rank for the open category was 49. The second round of seat allotment was published on June 24. Earlier, the institute had released the preliminary cutoff scores for 2024, with the last-ranked candidate qualifying for the NID BDes Mains in the General category being 253. Additionally, the cutoff marks for the General category in 2024 were 58.50.

NID DAT 2024 Counseling

NID conducted the counselling for NID DAT 2024 separately for M.Des and B.Des courses.

  • Candidates who qualified for the NID DAT 2024 exam were eligible to participate in the online counselling process.
  • B.Des candidates had to submit campus preferences during the counselling registration, but M.Des candidates did not need to submit preferences.
  • The seat allotment for the B.Des program Round II was declared on June 24, 2024, while the Round I results were announced on May 29, 2024.
  • The allotment was based on the NID DAT 2024 merit rank and the campus preferences chosen by candidates.
  • Candidates who were allotted seats had to pay a seat acceptance fee of INR 30,000.

Note: The first-semester tuition fee was INR 2,13,500 for admission to NID participating colleges, which included a non-refundable token fee of INR 30,000 and convenience charges. If a candidate failed to make the payment within the given deadline, their seat allotment would be given to the next candidate in the order of merit.
