NID DAT Entrance Examination
The NID DAT entrance examination is held on an annual basis by the National Institute of Design and offers students admission into the BDes and MDes programmes. The NID DAT Exam, which stands for the Design Aptitude Test is held in two phases, the DAT Prelims, and the DAT Mains. Students are shortlisted for the DAT Mains Exam only if they manage to secure enough marks in the first phase of the NID DAT Prelims Examination. The NID DAT Prelims Exam dates have been released by the National Institute of Design. The NID DAT Prelims exam is scheduled to be held on January 5, 2025.
As for the NID DAT Exam Pattern , the students are expected to sit for the NID DAT Prelims wherein they are assessed for their creative aptitude, designing ability, visual observation skills etc. However, for the NID DAT Mains exam, a student’s creativity, drawing and designing skills are put to the test. NID Eligibility Criteria
The NID DAT eligibility criteria for a bachelor’s in designing programme requires students to have completed Class 12th in any specialization from a recognized board. As for an MDes programme, students must hold a bachelor’s degree of a minimum of 3 or 4 years or its equivalent. The age limit for an undergraduate course in design as prescribed by the National Institute of Design requires students to have been born on or after July 1, 2004. As for the MDes programme, the students must have been born on or after July 1, 1992.

NID Admission Process
To get admission into the National Institute of Design, students must fulfill the NID DAT eligibility criteria:
- Students must have completed Class 12th in any stream from a recognized board to be eligible for a BDes in NID.
- Students must have completed their bachelor’s from a recognized institution in any discipline.
NID DAT Counselling, Seat Allotment
Students who manage to secure the required marks in the NID DAT Prelims as well as the Mains exam get shortlisted for the NID DAT counselling process . Here are the steps that are covered under the counselling process of the National Institute of Design:

- Step 2: Submit your BDes college and course preferences.
- Step 3: The seats are allocated to students based on their merit and preferences.
- Step 4: All the necessary documents are asked for and are verified.
- Step 5: The institute then issues the provisional offer letter to the shortlisted students.

NID carries out the process of seat allocation based on multiple factors, read them out:

- Category of the student being allotted a seat.
- Preference of the course made by a student during the NID DAT Application Process.
- Timely payment of the NID course fees and submission of the required documents.
NID Fee Structure
The NID fee structure for the BDes and MDes programmes varies to a large extent. For an undergraduate-level course at NID, the NID course fees go up to INR 2 LPA per semester. As for a master’s programme in design at this institute, the total fees go up to an amount of INR 11 LPA for the entire course.
