Entrance Test for Business Management
The entrance test is known as DU JAT (Delhi University Joint Admission Test) . It is one of the toughest exams in Under Graduate level both in terms of difficulty level and in terms of competition. The University, unlike other competitive exams, has not specified the exam pattern in its Bulletin this year. However, from the past experience it is expected that the exam will comprise four sections:
- Quantitative Ability
- Reasoning and Analytical Ability
- General English
- Business and General Awareness
There is no prescribed syllabus or format for the entrance test. The total number of questions will be 120 (30 each). Duration 120 minutes. Each correct answer will fetch you three marks but for each wrong answer, students will be penalized by 1 mark.
Preparation Strategy for DU JAT
Speed is very critical in DU JAT exam. Hence, the selection of questions at the time of the exam is very important. Spend 5-10 minutes to map the paper and tick to select 80-90 questions which you should attempt in the first go. Remember this time cut-off will go high as the selection is largely based on the JAT (85% weightage). Apart from question learning to select a question, you should also be ready to reject a question in less than 10 seconds.
So focus on the basics of class XI-XII and revise the Class XI-XII books, since fast calculations can save time, brush up the formulae. You can very well expect some questions, which are of class IX-X level. So, quickly remember the tricks of doing percentage, ratio proportion, Time-Speed-Distance, Time & Work and Area Volume questions. It is also advisable that you should work on Data Interpretation, which tends to be calculation heavy.
Verbal Ability section usually consists of grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension. Still, you have a feeling that it is a vocabulary heavy section. In the next few days, boost your vocabulary as much as possible.
Business and General Awareness is the most crucial section. In fact, your performance in GK and reasoning section can make all the difference as most of the test takers are likely to focus more on Maths and English. While revising GK/Current Awareness, candidates need to go through top business news stories regularly. Apart from that, focus on General Awareness Questions and static topics.
Focus on the following chapters:
- Who is who
- Business news
- General Science
- Books and Authors
- Current Events (whole past year)
- Landmarks of history
- National and International organizations
While preparing for this section, a student should focus more on issues related to national & international events, world bodies and foreign trade-related information.
Logical Reasoning is comparatively more important than Quant and Data Interpretation in this examination as all the students come from a Mathematics background and are likely to do well in that section. Questions in LR range from Numerical Reasoning, Decision Making to Verbal Logic. Logical Reasoning can be practised using puzzle books and other books on reasoning. You can also profit from working with books such as RS Aggarwal’s book on Reasoning available easily.
If you crack this section of the paper then half your battle is won and admission to the best BMS colleges in Delhi becomes that much easier. With a BMS degree in hand, you can strengthen your career prospects by going for an MBA in top-notch Retail Management colleges or Operation Management colleges in Delhi.
Write a few Mock tests
The paper pattern, duration of the paper and the number of questions to be attempted in the given amount of time are major parameters that you should know to plan your exam strategy.
