Difference Between UCEED Marks vs UCEED Rank
While both UCEED marks vs rank are vital for securing a seat in one’s preferred B.Des program, they signify different aspects. Check out the difference between UCEED marks vs rank:
UCEED Marks | UCEED Rank |
---|---|
UCEED marks represent the raw score one achieves in the UCEED exam. | UCEED rank represents the relative position compared to other candidates. In other words, it indicates one’s place among all test-takers based on the score. |
It is an absolute measure of one’s knowledge and skills tested in the exam. | It is used for admission decisions, as seats are allotted to candidates based on their ranks within specific categories (General, SC/ST, OBC/EWS). |
It does not directly guarantee admission, as many candidates may score similarly, but only a specific rank range secures a seat. | It is more relevant for admission than raw marks; a high rank within your category ensures a better chance of securing a seat in one’s desired program. |
Important Note: Two candidates with similar marks might end up with different ranks because of variations in overall scores and competition within their category. Concentrating solely on UCEED marks may not provide a clear indication of your admission chances. It is hence important to understand your UCEED rank within your category.
Minimum Marks for Inclusion in UCEED Rank List
The minimum prescribed marks for inclusion in the UCEED 2024 rank list differ depending on different categories:
Category | Minimum Percentage of Marks in Each Section | Minimum Total Marks |
---|---|---|
SC Rank List | 5 | 50 |
ST Rank List | 5 | 50 |
PwD Rank List | 5 | 50 |
OBC-NCL Rank List | 9 | 90 |
Common Rank List (CRL) | 10 | 100 |
Hence, to be eligible for ranking, it's necessary to achieve the minimum percentage in both individual sections (Part A & Part B) as well as in the total aggregate. It's important to note that these cut-offs are specified in percentages, not raw marks.

UCEED Rank/Merit List
The authority will release the UCEED rank list 2024, also known as the merit list, for all shortlisted candidates. The candidates can check the rank list online. There will not be a separate category-wise UCEED rank list; instead, it will be based on the total marks scored by candidates in the UCEED 2024 exam. In case of a tie, the authority will use tie-breaking criteria to determine the ranks.
The rank list will be based on the total marks obtained in UCEED 2024, combining both Part A and Part B marks. In case two or more candidates have the same total marks, the following tie-break policy will be applied to determine the ranks:
- Higher rank will be given to the candidate with higher marks in Part B.
- If the first criterion does not break the tie, a higher rank will be assigned to the candidate with higher marks in Section 2 of Part A.
- If the criteria in (1) and (2) do not break the tie, a higher rank will be assigned to the candidate with higher marks in Section 1 of Part A.
- If a tie persists even after these criteria, the candidates will be given the same rank.
How are the UCEED 2024 Marks Calculated?
UCEED 2024 marks are calculated in two stages:
Stage 1: Shortlisting Based on Part A (Objective Test)
Cut-off for Part A is calculated using the formula x + (z ⁄ 2) = y, where
- x is the average marks (rounded to the first decimal)
- z is the standard deviation of marks (rounded to the first decimal), and
- y represents the cut-off mark.
Candidates scoring at or above the calculated cut-off in Part A are shortlisted for further evaluation. However, individual marks for each question in Part A are not disclosed to candidates.
Stage 2: Final Merit Rank Based on Combined Score of Part A & Part B
- Part B Evaluation: Part B, the design test, undergoes manual assessment by two independent evaluators.
- Total Marks: The final score for each candidate comprises the sum of marks obtained in Part A (as per the cut-off) and Part B.
- Merit Rank: Candidates are ranked based on their total scores in descending order. In the case of ties, the following criteria are applied:
- Higher score in Part B
- Higher score in Section 2 of Part A
- Higher score in Section 1 of Part A
- Minimum Qualifying Score: There is no specific minimum qualifying score for the total marks. However, failing to meet the cut-off for Part A means you will not be assigned a rank or considered for admission.
