What to Expect from CLAT 2024

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is one of the most popular and widely taken law entrance exams of India . More than 70,000 law aspirants register for CLAT every year in order to enrol in some of the best law schools in India . CLAT is conducted by the CLAT Consortium for shortlisting candidates primarily for the National Law Universities (NLUs) but there are innumerable other law colleges that accept CLAT for their law admissions.

CLAT 2024 exam is scheduled to be held today i.e. Sunday (December 3, 2023) from 2 pm to 4 pm through pen and paper based mode across various test centres in India. This article provides a comprehensive explanation of what to expect from CLAT 2024.

Will CLAT 2024 get Cancelled?

No, CLAT 2024 is not cancelled and is scheduled to be held today i.e. December 3, 2023 from 2 pm till 4 pm via offline mode.

How will Law College Admissions take place if CLAT 2024 gets Cancelled?

CLAT 2024 is not cancelled and is supposed to take place today across various test centres in India through pen and paper mode. However, if it would have been cancelled then there are few alternative methods that could have been adopted by various law institutions to provide admission to various law aspirants, and they are as follows:

  • Numerous private law colleges accept scores from diverse national law entrance exams like AILET , LSAT India , NLSAT , SLAT , and KLEE, potentially making these exams the primary basis for selection.
  • Qualifying degree performance, including percentage marks or CGPA, may be considered by law colleges to shortlist applicants for further assessment.
  • Certain institutions may conduct their own entrance exams, whether online or offline, to gauge candidates' aptitude for legal studies. Evaluation methods can include written applications, assessing academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and personal statements.
  • Interviews may also be conducted to evaluate communication skills, critical thinking, and overall program suitability.
  • Colleges might adopt a combination of entrance exam scores, academic performance, written applications, and interviews to make well-informed admission decisions.

Will CLAT 2024 be Postponed like CLAT 2022?

No, CLAT 2024 isn’t postponed and is all set to take place today through pen and paper based method across various test centres in India. The exam will take place from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Are there any Changes/ Modifications in the CLAT 2024 Application Process?

There were no changes in the CLAT 2024 online application process and candidates were able to fill up the form from July 1, 2023 till November 3, 2023.

Students can take the Common Law Admission Test if they are at least 17 years old and have a minimum percentage of 45% in their Class 12th. They can complete their application through the online website of the Consortium of the NLUs.

Any Changes in the Number of Attempts in CLAT 2024?

As of now, the Consortium of NLUs did not come with any new notification stating the changes in the number of attempts in CLAT 2024. Candidates can take the CLAT exam as many times as they want. The test-takers should keep in mind that to take the exam, they must meet the eligibility criteria of the CLAT which include educational requirements, minimum age and nationality. Candidates who are eligible will be allowed to attempt the Common Law Admission Test in 2024.

Will CLAT 2024 be Conducted in Remote Proctored Mode?

No, CLAT 2024 will be conducted today in an offline mode. The number of total applicants of CLAT 2024 is way too high to organise the exam in the RPT mode, CLAT also does not have foolproof software that can ensure the smooth and fair completion of the examination. It will require a lot to arrange an AI-enabled ( Artificial Intelligence ) test which applicants can give from their homes.

Apart from that, the Consortium of the NLUs also has to keep in mind that it is not possible for every test-taker to have the essential facilities for giving a remote proctored test like laptops/ desktops, internet access, power backup, etc. In 2020, some students submitted a petition to the Delhi High Court for organising CLAT in the RPT mode but the exam was held in an online CBT mode. Therefore, it can be stated with significant certainty that CLAT 2024 will not be conducted in remote proctored mode.

Will there be changes in the CLAT 2024 Exam Pattern?

There has been a change in the CLAT UG 2024 exam pattern while the CLAT LL.M remains the same as last year. Like last year, this year also CLAT LL.M will not have a descriptive section and candidates appearing for LL.M will have to answer 120 MCQs in 120 minutes.

  • The first segment would include 120 objective-type questions, each representing one point.
  • Every wrong answer will cost the aspirant 0.25 points.
  • Students will be provided extracts from primary legal sources, such as key court decisions in various domains of law and regulations.
