CAT 2024 Exam Analysis Overview

The CAT 2024 Exam Analysis for Slot 1, Slot 2, and Slot 3 will be made available after the CAT 2024 exam has been conducted on November 24, 2024. In the meantime, candidates can view the CAT exam analysis from previous years. Based on past CAT exam analyses, the MBA entrance test tends to be challenging. All three slots typically exhibit similar difficulty levels. This year's CAT 2024 exam is anticipated to be moderate to difficult. Detailed sectional and overall analyses for CAT 2024 will be provided here post-exam.

The CAT 2024 exam will consist of three sections: VARC, DILR, and Quantitative Ability. The exam will comprise 66 objective-type questions (MCQ and TITA) to be completed in 120 minutes. This time will be evenly distributed, with 40 minutes allocated to each of the three sections. The exam pattern also includes a negative marking scheme of -1 for each incorrect MCQ response.     • The CAT 2023 exam was deemed to be a notch higher in terms of difficulty level according to many students and CAT experts.
    • There were no major changes introduced in the CAT 2023 question paper for all three slots.
    • The most significant change for CAT 2023 was that there was a compulsory question of Odd sentences out in the Verbal Ability portion of the CAT 2023 Slot 2 question paper. This was the first time that a question was mandatory in the CAT exam.
    • The Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension section was easy to moderate in terms of difficulty across all three slots of CAT 2023, although it was slightly tougher for Slot 2 as compared to Slots 1 and 3.

    CAT 2022 Overall Exam Analysis

    There were 66 total questions in CAT 2022, distributed among the 3 sections for all the slots. With a few questions at a higher difficulty level, CAT 2022 was rated as having a moderate level of difficulty according to the CAT exam analysis 2022. The Quantitative Aptitude section was moderately difficult in CAT 2022, however, all three slots' VARC and DILR sections were easy to moderate. In VARC, RC passages dominated, whereas Arithmetic and Algebra dominated Quantitative Aptitude. In each of the three slots in the DILR portion, there were four sets of five questions.     CAT 2022 Slot 2 did not present any significant surprises in comparison to CAT 2022 Slot 1. The questionable aspect of the number of questions was clarified in CAT 2022 Slot 1 itself. CAT 2022 Slot 2's overall level of difficulty was comparable to Slot 1's according to the CAT exam analysis. The VARC for slot 2 was easy to moderate in terms of section-by-section difficulty.     CAT 2020 Slot 3 concluded at 6:30 pm. CAT 2020 Slot 2 was conducted between 12:30 - 2:30 pm and CAT 2020 Slot 1 was conducted from 8:30 am to 10:30 am.     The three slots in which CAT 2020 was conducted are Forenoon (8:30 am to 10:30 am), Afternoon (12:30 pm to 2:30 pm), and Evening (4:30 pm to 6:30 pm). PwD candidates were provided 40 minutes extra in each shift. The number of slots was increased due to the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Health Ministry. Candidates also had to get their temperature checked at the gate and consent to contactless frisking before they were allowed to enter the premises.

    CAT Exam Analysis 2020: Slot-wise

    CAT 2020 had three slots, each consisting of 76 questions: 26 in VARC, 26 in QA, and 24 in DILR. In Slot 1, VARC posed a slightly higher level of difficulty, while QA and DILR were relatively easier to moderate. Slot 2 mirrored Slot 1 in VARC and QA, but DILR in Slot 2 was tougher compared to Slot 1. Slot 3 maintained the same pattern as Slots 1 and 2, with VARC having 26 questions, DILR having 24 questions, and QA comprising 26 questions.

    CAT Exam Analysis 2020: Slot 1 

    • The verbal section of CAT Slot 1 presented a moderate to difficult level of difficulty.
    • The Reading Comprehension (RC) component included four passages, each ranging from 450 to 500 words. Among these, two passages featured four questions each, while the other two had five questions.
    • The Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section was the most challenging. There were five sets, comprising two sets with six questions each and three sets with four questions each.
    • In the Quantitative Aptitude section, the level of difficulty was moderately easier. Commercial maths and ratio-based topics, including percentage and profit & loss, dominated the question distribution.
