The NID DAT 2025 eligibility criteria for B.Des and M.Des programmes, is now officially released at admissions.nid.edu. To qualify for the upcoming NID DAT 2025 prelims exam scheduled on January 5, 2025, candidates need to have their particular educational qualifications along with eligible age limits. Only candidates born on or after July 1, 2004, are eligible to apply for the B.Des course. The upper age limit for the M.Des course has also been relaxed for candidates born on or after July 1, 1993. Applicants must meet the B.Des NID DAT 2025 eligibility criteria for age as discussed below:

The prescribed upper age limit is 20 years on or before 30th June 2025. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2002 are eligible to apply for admission.

Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category

Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST)

The prescribed upper age limit is 23 years on or before 30th June 2025. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.

Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category

The prescribed upper age limit is 25 years on or before 30 June 2025. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1996 are eligible to apply for admission.

NID DAT 2025 Educational Qualification for B.Des

Applicants who have passed the class 12 exam from any stream such as Science, Arts, Commerce, etc. from any recognised educational board such as CBSE, IB, or ICSE are eligible to apply for B.Des NID DAT 2025.

Examinations that are considered equivalent to Class 12 are as given below:

  • The final examination of the Class 12 system under a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

  • Intermediate or two-year pre-university examination under a board or university recognised by the AIU.

  • The final year examination of the two-year course at the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy (NDA).

  • Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects.

  • Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or any foreign country is recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the AIU.

  • HSC vocational examination.

  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge, or Sri Lanka.

  • AICTE-approved three-year full-time Diploma after class 10 offered by the Board of Technical Education or any state in India or Union Territories.

  • Candidates, who have completed their class 12 or equivalent examination from outside India or from a Board or University that is not specified in the above list, must compulsorily submit a certificate from the AIU in this regard. This certificate is required to be submitted at the time of document verification.

NID B.Des Foundation Course & Seat Availability

All applicants accepted into this programme must complete a foundation course during the first year. Based on the number of seats available and how well they performed during the foundation phase, applicants will then be assigned to domains. NID DAT 2025 Eligibility Criteria for PG Admissions

The NID DAT 2025 exam's formulated age limit for M.Des courses determines the minimum and maximum ages of candidates who may attempt the exam. Also, candidates must meet the necessary qualifications to be eligible to take the exam as discussed below.

NID DAT 2025 Educational Qualification for M.Des

Applicants who have passed/appearing for a bachelor’s degree of a minimum of four years in any discipline under the 10+2+4 (or more) system are eligible to apply.

Note: Applicant must have passed the Bachelor's degree examinations at the time of document verification scheduled on June 2025.

Or,

Applicants who have passed/appearing for a bachelor’s degree of a minimum of 3- years in any discipline under the 10+2+4 (or more) system are eligible to apply.

Note: Applicants must have passed the Bachelor's degree examinations before July 2020.

Or,

Applicants holding a 4-year Diploma in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/Architecture under the 10+2+4 system.

Note: Applicant must have passed the Bachelor's degree examinations at the time of document verification scheduled on June 2025.

NID M.Des Seat Availability

M.Des is a 2.5-year course that NID offers in a variety of fields. For each domain, there will be two seats set out for applicants from abroad. The NID campuses in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru provide this educational programme. When registering for the test, applicants can select a maximum of two disciplines or domains. Note: 

  • In the last year of their graduation degree/full-time diploma programme applicants, whose universities may not have issued the final degree certificate by the date of application form of NID, are also eligible to apply, but are subject to passing all subjects without any backlog. Such a candidate will have to submit their provisional degree certificate at the time of counselling.

  • An Equivalence Certificate must compulsorily be obtained by the candidate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, in case the candidate has obtained the degree/certificate from any University/Board of any foreign country.

NID DAT 2025 Eligibility Criteria for Overseas Category

The foreign nationals category is open to applicants who hold citizenship in nations other than the Republic of India. Nearly 15% of the extra seats in the B.Des and M.Des programmes are under the foreign category. Here is the detailed NID DAT 2025 eligibility criteria for overseas or foreign applicants:

  • NRIs must only apply as citizens of India.

  • Individuals who hold a valid PIO or OCI status with a foreign passport may apply for either the "Indian" or "Overseas" title. Applicants submitting applications under the international category must pay fees akin to those imposed on foreign nationals.

  • Only online submissions will be accepted for applicants in the overseas category on the official admissions of the administering body.

  • The DAT, which is followed by the Stage 2 and Stage 3 assessments, can only be taken at the Ahmedabad campus by applicants who opt to pursue a Bachelor's or Master's degree in the international category.

  • The candidate is responsible for printing NID Hall Tickets, which may be downloaded from the official website.

  • To accept an offer of admission, international applicants must attend in person to the appropriate NID campus administration.

NID Admission Documents Required by Overseas Students

The following documents must be provided by candidates in their original forms as well as certified copies:

  • The applicant must submit an attested passport photocopy.

  • Applicants for the B.Des degree must provide attested copies of their SSC and HSC transcripts.

  • Students for the M.Des degree must have attested copies of their SSC, HSC, and completed years of graduate marksheets in addition to their degree certificate, provisional certificate, or passing certificate.

  • Before the admissions procedure, an equivalence certificate must be submitted if the applicant is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

The Graduation Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) is an eight-semester course, the first two of which are shared by all branches, with the remaining six semesters depending on the following domains.
