IIFT 2024 Admission Process

The selection of candidates for admission to the IIFT MBA (IB) - Full Time for the academic year 2024-26 is influenced by several factors in addition to IIFT’s Written Examination scores, Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD)/Extempore and Personal Interview (PI) scores. These parameters include Academic Consistency, Academic Diversity, Gender Diversity, and Work Experience. The admission process will be carried out in two phases which are mentioned below.

Shortlisting of Candidates for WAT-GD/Extempore-PI

According to the percentiles obtained on the IIFT entrance test, including sectional cut-offs, candidates will be narrowed down for WAT-GD/Extempore-PI. Depending on the number of candidates who will be shortlisted and the number of available seats, the minimum cut-off percentage is determined. In accordance with the IIFT's policy on gender diversity, the cut-off scores for female candidates in all categories are two points lower than the actual cut-off. Marks earned in Classes X and XII will be taken into consideration in addition to the previously mentioned requirement. Up to 5 points may be given to non-engineers in order to maintain a balanced class composition at IIFT. The table below mentions the Stage 1 shortlisting parameters and their respective weightages:

  1. Writing Ability Test (WAT): In this round, essays on predetermined topics must be submitted by the shortlisted candidates. The grading for the WAT round will mostly be focused on readability, comprehension, presentational style, and idea expression.

  2. Group Discussion (GD): During the Group Discussion round, shortlisted candidates must hold group discussions on a predetermined subject. The ability of the candidate to exhibit leadership abilities, team player skills, communication, content, and the ability to provide fresh perspectives on the topic will be evaluated during the Group Discussion round of the selection process.

  3. Personal Interview (PI): In this round of the selection process shortlisted candidates must show up for a face-to-face interview. The candidate's academic, extracurricular, and analytical performance are taken into account in the evaluation.

IIFT 2024 Selection Procedure Stages

The IIFT 2024 MBA (IB) Admission Process will comprise three rounds this year. These are Written Ability Test (WAT), Extempore, and Personal Interview. All of these rounds will be conducted online and the dates for the same will be communicated to shortlisted candidates via email. Details about the selection process have been found given below.

Written Ability Test (WAT)

  • This is the first step of the Selection Procedure of IIFT 2024. The ones who mark their place in the cut-off list of IIFT 2024 will be eligible to sit for this round.

  • The round has been planned to check the writing skills of the candidates. To see the approach of the candidates towards a particular topic along with their critical analysis is also a thing that gets examined in the Written Ability Test (WAT) round.

  • The topic will be given on the spot, and the candidates will be told to complete the essay within the stipulated time.

  • The topic and the time duration will be set by the admission selection authorities of the IIFT and any query regarding the round must be brought up to the authority without delays.

  • The topic for Written Ability Test (WAT) can come from the various sectors including Politics, Management, Business, Corporate World, Indian Economy or the Scenario of Economy around the Globe, Sports, Media and Communication, Social Reforms and the Society, Law and Amendments, Aspiring Leaders and their Achievements, etc.

  • After the completion of this round and declaration of the result, selected candidates will be sent for the next round Selection Procedure.

Extempore

  • The second round of the admission process of IIFT 2024 will be the extempore round.

  • Extempore is a round in which a candidate will be given a random topic and they will be required to deliver a short speech on that topic.

  • Candidates will not have any knowledge of the topic beforehand and they will have limited time to prepare their notes and a short speech on the same.

Personal Interview (PI)

  • This is technically the final round of the Selection Process of IIFT 2024. Candidates clearing the Group Discussion round will be able to sit for the interview session organised by IIFT.

  • As the name suggests, the round is about interviewing candidates on a personal one to one level.

  • Each candidate gets time to sit for the Personal Interview session. A panel of judges ask different questions to the candidate and examine their answers on terms decided by these judges.

  • The main aim to organize this round is to understand the mental level of the candidates and to judge their understanding of the course they are about to opt for along with their interest in the subject matter.

  • The questions asked by the judges can be anything from any field or personal life of the candidate. Therefore, the candidates must be ready to answer the different questions with confidence and smartness.

  • Once the round of interviews gets over, the result will be declared, finalizing the list of the candidates for the round of admission into the two branches of the IIFT.
