For the most part, the IIFT syllabus and the CAT syllabus are similar in nature. Both the CAT and IIFT syllabus cover the same material in terms of Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability, and Reading Comprehension. However, the IIFT syllabus has an additional section called General Awareness. Candidates can prepare for both tests at the same time due to the similarities in the syllabus for each one.
A candidate should ideally spend at least six to nine months preparing for the IIFT exam. Covering the IIFT syllabus should take up the first few months. Following that, candidates must spend roughly two months working through practice questions and mock tests. Candidates must set aside time for revision in the final month before the exam.
The IIFT syllabus is quite vast and it covers numerous topics across all of its broad categories. The Verbal Ability section evaluates a candidate's knowledge of subjects like Grammar, Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, etc. As for the Quantitative Aptitude section, topics like maths, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, etc. are covered. Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning is used to assess areas like coding-decoding, blood relationships, analogies, etc. Finally, in the General Awareness section candidate's knowledge of subjects like business, economics, politics, international affairs, etc. are tested.
The section of the IIFT syllabus with the maximum weightage is the Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension section. Every section of the IIFT syllabus has a different weightage in terms of the number of questions included.
