SNAP 2024 General English Syllabus Overview

The SNAP 2024 General English Syllabus evaluates the language proficiency of the candidates and encompasses topics like Analogies, Vocabulary, Sentence Correction, Synonyms and Antonyms, Sentence Completion, Active Voice and Passive Voice, Odd One Out, One Word Substitution, Contextual Usage, Jumbled Paragraphs, Idioms and Syllogisms, and Fill in the Blanks, among others. 15 MCQs will be asked in this section that carry 25% weightage in the SNAP exam. Since General English carries a significant weightage in the SNAP exam, it is essential to perform effectively and obtain a high score in this section. Productive preparation in this section improves the reading, writing, and verbal communication skills of the candidates, broadens their vocabulary, and prepares them for the subsequent stages of the SNAP admission process, such as Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI).

SNAP 2024 English Syllabus for Reading Comprehension

The RC section of SNAP evaluates the ability of the candidates to grasp the central theme of the passage, critically analyze and evaluate the arguments or points of view in the passage, and recognize specific facts or explanations presented to support the main ideas. Even though things are not explicitly stated, candidates must also be able to identify the author's tone, attitude, or perspective in the passage and draw logical conclusions from the information provided in the passage. SNAP 2024 General English Syllabus for Vocabulary

The Vocabulary section of SNAP evaluates the knowledge of candidates regarding individual words and their word meanings, including their synonyms and antonyms. Based on the context of a word within a sentence or passage, the ability of the candidates to determine the meaning of the words and assess the correct usage of words will also be evaluated. This section also assesses if candidates can understand the relationships between different words and identify similar relationships between other word pairs; are acquainted with common idiomatic expressions and their meanings; understand the roots, prefixes, and suffixes of unfamiliar words to decipher their meanings; and distinguish between words that have similar sound but have different meanings or spellings, among others. Contextual usage

determining the synonym/antonym of a word that is used in a sentence in a particular context so obtain a clue to the meaning

Fill in the blanks

to provide missing information in a phrase, sentence, or paragraph

Jumbled paragraphs with 4 or 5 sentences

a paragraph will be provided where related sentences will be given in a jumbled manner and candidates must arrange the sentences in an orderly manner so that they are connected to form a coherent paragraph

SNAP 2024 General English Syllabus for Grammar and Usage

A candidate's ability to write and communicate effectively, which is an indispensable part of both academic and professional business environments, will be evaluated in this section. The important topics under Grammar and Usage are Sentence Structure, Punctuation, Parts of Speech, Modifiers, Pronouns, Subject-Verb Agreement, Idiomatic usage, etc. among others. Adjectives

  • a word present after the verb or before the noun that modifies or describes a noun or pronoun acting as the subject in a sentence

Adverbs

a word used to describe or modify a place, time, manner, cause, an adjective, a phrase, or degree to a verb, or another adverb

Pronouns

  • a word or a group of words that substitute a noun or noun phrase and refer to people, things, concepts, and places

Prepositions

  • a word used to connect a noun, a noun phrase, or a pronoun to another word, especially to a verb, another noun, or an adjective to show the direction of something, to refer to the time of something happening, or to indicate the position or location of an object
  • different types of Prepositions are Prepositions of Time, Prepositions of Place, Prepositions of Direction, Prepositions of Location, and Prepositions of Spatial Relationship

Conjunctions

  • a word that is employed in a sentence for joining other words, phrases, clauses
  • different types of Conjunctions are Coordinating, Subordinating, and Correlative Conjunctions

Interjections

a word, phrase, or sound used to express a strong feeling, such as surprise, pain, or horror, rather than meaning and it is grammatically independent from the words around it

Articles

  • a word that is placed before a noun to indicate whether it's specific or general and to modify the noun which is a person, place, object, or idea
  • the two types of Articles are Definite (the) and Indefinite (a, an)

Sentence completion

  • completing an incomplete sentence using the correct or most appropriate word that exhibits the vocabulary power and skill to follow the logic of sentences of the candidates
  • a complete sentence must have a subject and a verb, and the verb must be "finite"
  • different types of sentence completion are Restatement, Contrast, Comparison, Cause, and effect

Sentence correction

removing all grammatical errors from a sentence in which a phrase or a word is given that requires grammatical changes or improvement

Subject-verb agreement

verb or verbs in a sentence must be identical to the number, person, and gender of the subject, i.e. if subject is singular then verb must be singular and if subject is plural, the verb must also be plural

Last 4 Months Preparation Plan for SNAP 2024 General English Syllabus

Since the SNAP 2024 exam will be conducted on December 8, 15 & 21, 2024, candidates can still prepare effectively for the exam over the next 4 months. The month-wise preparation plan for the SNAP 2024 General English Syllabus has been provided below to enhance the grammatical accuracy and confidence of the candidates.

Month 1: Revising Fundamental Topics and Enhancing Basic Skills

The first month must be devoted to the revision of the different parts of speech like nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, interjections, and conjunctions and practising exercises on each part of speech from the from the best books for SNAP 2024. Candidates must also become familiar with sentence structure that encompasses subject, predicate, objects, and complements. They must also make it a habit to practise questions based on Tenses, subject-verb agreement, error correction. Month 3: Practising Advanced Grammar and Solving Mock Tests

In this phase, candidates must brush up on advanced grammar topics like active and passive voice, conjunctions, collective nouns, indefinite pronouns, perfect and perfect continuous tenses, subjunctive mood, clauses, modifiers, modals, idioms, and auxiliaries, direct and indirect speech, etc. among others. learn advanced words like Aberration, Benevolent, Capricious, Disparage, Equivocate, etc. and their usage. Reading newspapers, magazines, and quality literature helps in enhancing expertise in grammar. Apart from these, candidates must take regular mock tests to learn how to apply grammar knowledge to answer maximum questions with high accuracy under timed conditions and analyze test results to identify and improve weaker areas.

Month 4: Final Preparation and Solving Full-Length Mock Tests

Candidates must develop time management strategies by taking multiple full-length SNAP mock tests 2024 under timed conditions in the final phase. In the last month, it is recommended that candidates revise vocabulary and grammar rules, solve more RC passages, and practise answering more verbal ability questions, including analogies, sentence completion, and critical reasoning.
