SSC CGL CPT & DEST 2024 Syllabus

The Staff Selection Commission conducts the SSC CGL 2024 exam to fill desk positions in several central government ministries and departments. CPT and DEST are used to evaluate the computer-based tasks that the chosen applicants complete. You can see the test syllabus below.

SSC CGL 2024 Syllabus for CPT

In Tier 2, the SSC CGL test now includes a Computer Knowledge Test (CKT) in place of the previous Computer Proficiency Test (CPT). Despite being required, the CKT is only a qualifying test; your score has no bearing on the final merit list. Nonetheless, the SSC has said that certain positions will require greater CKT qualification requirements, such as:

      • Assistant Section Officer positions in CSS, MEA, and AFHQ
      • Assistant roles in the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs
      • Assistant (GSI) in the Ministry of Mines
      • Assistant in the Indian Meteorological Department (Ministry of Earth Sciences)
      • Inspector roles in CGST & Central Excise, Preventive Officer, and Examiner in CBIC, as well as Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant in the Department of Post

SSC CGL 2024 Syllabus for Data Entry Speed Test (DEST)

The Commission offers the Data Entry Speed Test (DEST), through which candidates can be assessed for their aptitude and accuracy in doing data entry work on a computer. The test takes only 15 minutes, by which the candidate has to type a passage that entails around 2,000 key depressions within this time period. In the DEST for SSC CGL, the Commission distinguished between two kinds of errors:

      • Full Mistakes
      • Half Mistakes

Following is the classification of error types and how they are categorized:

      Full Mistakes

A "full or complete mistake" occurs when the following mistakes or errors take place:

      • Omission: A word or number has been left out.
      • Wrong Substitution: A wrong word or number has been used for the word in the sentence, except when two words have simply been substituted.
      • Unnecessary Additions: Words or numbers have been used that are not present in the original text.
      • Spelling Errors: Letters have been repeated, omitted, substituted, or added. So when you write "spelling" as "seplling" or "speling" this is counted as a mistake.
      • Word Spelling: Repeated words or numbers, such as type "I shall shall."
      • Incompletely Spelled Words: You count as errors and also partially typed words.

      Half Mistakes

“Half mistakes or errors” include mistakes resulting from such as:

      • Spacing Errors: Spacing between words, missing (as in "Ihope" instead of "I hope") or extra spacing within or between words - like "I h ave".
      • Capitalization Errors: Wrong spelling of capital or small letters except in Hindi Typewriting.
      • Errors of Punctuation: Omission, addition, or substitution of punctuation marks, often incorrectly.
      • Transposition: Misspelling due to words being written in the wrong order, e.g., "I hope" as "hope I."
      • Paragraphing Issues: Alternative spacing at the paragraph start. The opening of paragraphs may be typed with the use of alternative spacing rather than tabs.

How to Cover SSC CGL Syllabus Successfully?

Covering the entire SSC CGL syllabus is crucial for success in the exam. However, due to the lack of a proper preparation strategy, students leave many important topics and fail to score well. Below are some tips on how to cover the SSC CGL syllabus successfully.

      • Understand the Exam Pattern: Before diving into the study material, familiarize yourself with the SSC CGL exam pattern. It's divided into four tiers, each with a different format. Understanding the exam structure is crucial for an efficient study plan.
      • Structured Study Plan: Break down the syllabus into manageable sections. Allocate specific time slots for each topic based on its difficulty level and importance in the exam. Creating a timetable helps cover the vast syllabus systematically and avoids last-minute rushes.
      • Focus on Core Subjects: Concentrate on the core subjects like Quantitative Aptitude, General Intelligence and Reasoning, English Comprehension, and General Awareness. Prioritize topics from which questions are frequently asked, dedicating more time to weaker sections.
      • Practice and Revise: Regular practice is key to mastering the SSC CGL syllabus. Solve previous year question papers and take mock tests to get a feel of the exam's time constraints and the type of questions asked. Revision sessions are crucial to reinforce learned concepts.
      • Use Reliable Study Materials: Choose study materials and preparation books that are updated and cater specifically to the SSC CGL syllabus. Online resources, tutorials, and coaching classes can also provide support and clarification on difficult topics.
