TN SET Eligibility Criteria 2024

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University has released the TN SET eligibility criteria for candidates appearing for the TN SET 2024. The application process was conducted from April 1 to April 30, 2024. Candidates who meet all the eligibility criteria and are interested in participating can submit their applications on the official website, msutnset.com. The deadline for payment of the application fee was May 2, 2024. Following this, officials opened the application form correction window from May 3 to May 4, 2024.

TN SET, known as the Tamil Nadu State Eligibility Test, is a state-level examination designed to evaluate candidates' eligibility for the role of Assistant Professor in universities or colleges within Tamil Nadu. The exam covers 45 subjects and is divided into two parts: Paper 1 and Paper 2.

TN SET Eligibility Criteria 2024 - Age Limit, Educational Qualification, Mandatory Subjects

The eligibility criteria for the TN SET examination ensure that candidates possess the necessary educational qualifications and meet specific requirements to be eligible for the exam. These criteria are designed to maintain standards and ensure fairness in the selection process. Below are the key points outlining the eligibility requirements for TN SET 2024:

  • Educational Qualification: Individuals who have successfully obtained a Master's Degree or an equivalent qualification from a university recognized by the UGC, with a minimum of 55% marks, are eligible to sit for the Test. However, candidates from SC/ST/PwD/Third gender backgrounds must attain at least 50% marks to qualify.
  • Required Aggregate Marks: Candidates presently pursuing a Master's program or awaiting their results are eligible to apply on a provisional basis. Nevertheless, they must ensure that they achieve a minimum of 55% marks (or 50% for specified categories) in their Master's Degree within two years from the date of the TNSET results.
  • Relaxation: Ph.D. holders who completed their Master's before September 19, 1991, are entitled to a 5% relaxation in the aggregate marks required for TNSET, reducing the criterion from 55% to 50%.
  • Subjects: Candidates should opt for the subject of their Post-Graduation for the Test. Candidates are required to have completed the qualifying examination in disciplines such as Science, Humanities (including languages), Social Science, Electronic Sciences, Computer Science & Application, and Library & Information Sciences. If their subject is not covered in the TNSET subjects, they may opt for the UGC-NET or the joint CSIR-UGC Test.
  • Equivalence of Qualification: Candidates holding post-graduate diplomas/certificates from Indian or foreign universities must ensure the equivalence of their qualifications with recognized Indian universities' Master's degrees through the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), located in New Delhi.
  • Age Limit: There are no restrictions on the age limit for TNSET applicants.

TN SET Aggregate Grading Requirement 2024

All candidates aspiring to take the TN SET exam must achieve an aggregate of 55%. However, it's important to note the following grading requirements:

  • A relaxation of 5% applies to candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC/Others.
  • Additionally, Ph.D. degree holders who obtained their Master’s degree before September 19, 1991, are entitled to a 5% relaxation (from 55% to 50%) regardless of the result declaration date.
  • For candidates from universities using a grading system, a relevant grade equivalent to 55% at the Master’s level will be considered valid.
