UPTET (Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test) is a state-level eligibility test conducted, once a year, by the Uttar Pradesh Pareeksha Niyamak Pradhandhikari, to select credible candidates who can be teachers in the upgrowing primary government education sector in Uttar Pradesh. Candidates who clear UPTET shall be eligible to teach Classes 1 to 5 (Primary Schools) and Classes 6 to 8 (Junior) in government schools as well as government-aided schools across Uttar Pradesh. However, UPTET does not guarantee a position as a teacher in government schools across the state, and the candidates will have to clear a recruitment exam conducted by the UP government to fill up the vacancies in government as well as aided schools across the state.
