About NExT Exam

NExT Exam is expected to be conducted in August 2025. The NExT 2025 exam will be conducted in online mode. It is anticipated that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will release all the important dates for the NExT 2025 exam. As per few sources, it was anticipated that the NExT PG exam would be conducted for the MBBS final year students of the 2018 to 22 batch. A few reports previously mentioned that NExT would be conducted for the final year MBBS students of the 2018-24 batch. However, last year in July, the NMC NExT exam for batch 2019-25 students was cancelled.

The NExT Exam MBBS is set to replace NEET PG and FMGE exams for medical students. Once the NExT Exam has started in India, it will be the only gateway to obtaining a medical license and practicing medicine in India. As per the NExT 2025 exam pattern, Step 1 of NExT exam will consist of 540 multiple choice questions. Step 2 of the NExT exam will be a practical illustration round. The NExT PG exam will be held twice a year, once in May and then in November. NExT 2025 Exam: Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the NExT Exam are set by the official exam conducting authority. The minimum eligibility requirement to appear for the NExT Exam is to pass MBBS with 50% marks in aggregate or pass an undergraduate medical degree from a foreign university. Candidates need to pass MBBS from a Medical college approved by the official authorities at the National Medical Commission

Students who have completed their undergraduate medical degrees at foreign universities will be eligible to participate NExT exam only if the universities they were enrolled is approved by NMC

NExT PG Exam Application Process

It is anticipated that the exam process of NExT will be split into 2 main stages: Step 1 and Step 2. Candidates are advised to refer to the information below to get more details about the exam process of the NExT Exam 2025.

NExT 2025 Exam Step 1

Examines Theoretical Knowledge: NExT Step 1 will be a theoretical examination, consisting of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Candidates have to appear for the NExT 2025 exam in online mode. This AIIMS will conduct this centralized common exam. Students need to meet the eligibility criteria for the NExT PG Exam 2025 to appear for the test.

NExT Exam Supplementary Option: Candidates who have not passed the NExT Exam Step 1, have the provision to appear for this step. In addition to NExT Step 1, a mandatory NExT Step 2 exam is conducted annually before the university exams for the III MBBS (Part 2)/Final MBBS course. Candidates have the provision to attend Step 1 of the NExT 2025 Exam multiple times within 10 years of joining the MBBS course. 

NExT 2025 Exam Step 2

NExT Step 2 Examines the Practical Knowledge: Only candidates who have passed the NExT Exam Step 1, are allowed to appear for the NExT Step 2 test. The NExT 2025 Exam Step 2 includes a series of clinical/practical and viva voce exams. The exam pattern of the NExT 2025 involves Objective Structured, Simulated Cases/Patients, and Clinical Case-Based questions. The primary aim is to assess aspirants' clinical and practical skills, communication abilities, and clinical decision-making.

NExT Step 2 Test Administration and Supplementary Exam: NExT Step 2 is conducted in person in the respective states of the candidates, adhering to Commission guidelines. Candidates must note that the regular NExT Step 2 test is held annually. A supplementary exam is also held for candidates failing in 1 to 3 out of 6 subjects in the NExT Exam 2025. This supplementary exam is also conducted once every year. Candidates have the flexibility to appear for both NExT Step 1 and Step 2 as many times as needed, provided they complete these within 10 years of enrolling in the MBBS course.
