How to Calculate GATE 2025 Score?

The GATE score will be determined by the exam authority based on the raw marks obtained by candidates in the GATE 2025 result. Candidates will receive their actual marks after their answers have been assessed. The GATE score for the multi-session exam will be computed by converting the raw marks into normalized marks specific to each subject. The GATE score will be calculated using the raw marks in relation to the qualifying marks.

Formula to Calculate GATE Score:

The given formulae will be employed to calculate the GATE score:

Where;

M is the marks the candidate has secured (Single Session papers marks and Multi-Session papers normalized marks)

Mqis general category candidate qualifying mark in the paper

MtTop 10 or top 0.1% candidates' mean of marks who appeared in the exam (all sessions included in case of multi-session papers)

Sq is the score assigned to Mq, i.e 350

Stis the score assigned to Mt, i.e 900

GATE 2025 Normalization Process

GATE scores are normalized to take into consideration various variations in the multiple papers as conducted. These variations could be related to various factors especially the difficulty level of the examination.

GATE score normalization is based on the assumption that in a multi-session exam, the abilities of the candidates are equally distributed in all the sessions. The examination authority ensures that the number of candidates in each session is of the same order of magnitude.

Note: This assumption is justified since the number of candidates appearing in multi-session papers in GATE is large and the procedure for allocation of the session to candidates is random.

The normalization scores of the candidates will be calculated using the given formulae:

Where;

Mijis the marks scored by the candidates by the candidate "j" in the session "i"

Mgtis the average marks secured by the top 0.1% of the candidates in all the sessions

Mgqis the sum of standard deviation marks and mean marks scored by the candidates in the paper all sections considered

Mtiis the average marks scored by 0.1% of the candidates in the session "i"

Miqis the sum of standard deviation marks and mean marks in the session "i"

GATE Qualifying Cutoff 2025

The GATE 2025 cutoff scores will be released along with the GATE result. The GATE cutoff 2025 represents the minimum marks necessary for admission to MTech. Candidates with scores more than or equal to the GATE 2025 cutoff will have a good probability of admission. The paper-wise GATE qualifying marks 2025 for all categories will be updated here.

GATE Cutoff 2024

Since the GATE 2025 cutoff marks have not yet released. Candidates can go through the previous year GATE qualifying cutoff marks for various categories and papers.

GATE Rank vs Marks vs Score

GATE Marks are calculated out of 100, however, based on the difficulty level and various other factors the GATE scores are also calculated out of 1000 using the normalization method. GATE Rank is assigned only to the eligible candidates who have qualified for the exam and this AIR will help students in the admission process. For better understanding, students can refer to the table below representing the GATE Rank vs Marks vs Score Analysis 2025 based on the exam results for the AIR holders.
