GATE cutoff 2024 was released by IISc Bangalore at gate2024.iisc.ac.in. We have mentioned the category-wise GATE cutoff 2024 marks for all 30 papers on this page. In the GATE exam 2024, 6,53,292 students appeared for the exam, and only 1.29 lakh students qualified. GATE cutoff for General category was the highest and for SC/ST category was the lowest. For the CSE branch, GATE cutoff 2024 stood at 27.6 (Gen), 24.8 (OBC-NCL/ EWS) and 18.4 (SC/ ST/ PwD). On the other hand, GATE ECE cutoff 2024 was 25 (Gen), 22.5 (OBC-NCL/ EWS) and 16.6 (SC/ ST/ PwD) category students. Overall, the GATE 2024 cutoff marks for popular papers like ECE, CSE, and ME were lower compared to papers like easier papers like BT, XH, XE etc due to the increased difficulty level. 

GATE cutoff marks are determined by various factors like the number of students registering, seats available, student’s category, difficulty level of the exam, etc. There are two types of GATE cutoff; admission and qualifying cutoff. The GATE qualifying cutoff 2024 is the marks that students must score to pass the exam. GATE admission cutoff is released by the respective participating colleges and it varies institute-wise. Looking at the paper-wise cutoff marks, it is evident that the competition for core engineering subjects, like GATE CSE, ECE, ME and Civil was tough. The cutoff scores for these papers varied between 16.6 (ECE) and 19 (ME).

The number of students appearing for the GATE 2024 exam had a significant impact on the cutoff. Some engineering branches were more demanding than others, therefore competition was tough. This resulted in higher cutoffs for those GATE papers. For example, the number of students who applied for the Computer Science and Information Technology (CS & IT) paper was higher than the number of students for other papers, which led to the increase in GATE CS cutoff.

Number of Seats Available

The GATE qualifying cutoff is not the same as the cutoff for admission to a specific institute, such as IIT Bombay, IIT Madras etc. These institutes announce the admission cutoff for GATE-qualified students. Seat availability played a critical role in the admission cutoff for the specific institute.

Difficulty Level of Examination

The difficulty level of the GATE question paper influenced the cutoff. For easier question papers, the majority of students were able to score well and the cutoff was high.

Students' Category

The GATE cut-off rank varied depending on the student category. According to last year’s pattern, the open category had the highest GATE cutoff, while SC/ST/PWD had the lowest GATE cutoff in 2024.
