ICSE 10th Grading System 2025 consists of grade points from 1 to 9. 1 is the highest while 9 is the lowest Grade Point. Students who received 8 or 9 Grade Points will be considered as failing students. There are different grading systems adopted by CISCE for external and internal exams. In internal exams, grades from A to E are considered to rank the students based on their performance. A grade is the highest while E is the lowest. Students getting an E grade will be considered “Fail”. Students can easily calculate their percentage by using the grading system.

ICSE 10th Result 2025 will be released in May 2025. For internal exams, only grades will be reflected in the result. Students are required to score 33% marks to be considered “Pass”. Passing certificates will be awarded to the students who received minimum passing marks in at least 5 subjects including English. It is compulsory to pass in English. There are two types of exams conducted by CISCE authorities for class 10th students. Students will be appearing for external as well as internal exams according to the curriculum. There are a total of seven subjects in the ICSE Curriculum for which the exams are conducted offline. These subjects are grouped into three sections per the ICSE 10th Exam Pattern 2025 :

ICSE 10th Grading System 2025: Marking Scheme

In ICSE Class 10th, the subjects are divided into certain groups to be considered by the students when selecting their stream. The subjects included in Group 1 are compulsory. Students will then have to select any two subjects from Group 2 and any one subject from Group 3 to complete their curriculum. ICSE 10th Grading System 2025: How to Calculate Percentage

Students can easily calculate their percentage in ICSE 10th Board through a simple formula as mentioned below:

  • Step 1: Add the number of marks that you have secured in the top 5 subjects in the ICSE 10th Result 2025. Make sure to include English as one of the subjects.
  • Step 2: Divide the sum by the number of subjects that is by 5. You will get your percentage accordingly.
  • The formula is Percentage = Sum of Marks Obtained in Best Five Subjects (English Compulsory) / Number of subjects

ICSE 10th Passing Criteria 2025

The following passing criteria are put forward by CISCE for the students to successfully pass class 10th exams in 2025:

  • PASS CERTIFICATES will be awarded to candidates who at the ICSE Examination have entered for at least six subjects and have attained the pass standard in at least five subjects which must include the subject English.
  • For the supplementary students, the passing certificate will be awarded to those who have obtained PASS CERTIFICATES and who appear in a subsequent examination and attain the pass marks in one or more subjects.
  • An additional certificate of statement of marks will be issued to the students who have successfully appeared in the exams.
  • The passing marks for each subject are 33%.

ICSE 10th Supplementary Exams 2025

Certain rules and regulations surround supplementary exams in ICSE. The candidates shall be provided only one attempt to clear the Compartment Examination. Check the details related to the eligibility for the compartment exam here:

  • Candidates who have failed to secure a Pass Certificate and have been awarded a PCNA (Pass Certificate Not Awarded) in the current year of the ICSE Examination will be eligible to appear for the Compartment Examination. However, the candidates should have passed English and three other subjects in the ICSE Examination to be eligible to appear for the Compartment Examination.
  • In the Compartment Examination, the candidates will be permitted to appear for ONE subject only.
  • All candidates appearing for the compartment examination are required to compulsorily appear for the Theory Paper.
  • The internal marks of the subject awarded to the candidate in the main examination will be carried forward. However, if the candidate was absent earlier during the internal assessment of the subject, then the candidate, in addition to taking the Theory examination may also submit the assignments/project work, which will then be assessed, and marks awarded. These marks are then to be submitted online.
  • Schools will need to register the candidates eligible for taking the compartment examination online on or before the dates specified by the CISCE. A one-week window will be made available for Schools to register their candidates.
  • ICSE 10th Improvement Exam Date 2025 will be decided by CISCE.
  • The Result will be declared after a month from the date of the last examination taken.

ICSE 10th Supplementary Passing Criteria 2025

The following pass criteria will be taken into concentration for the students who appear for the supplementary exam:

  • Those candidates who are successful at the Compartment Examination and whose overall results have changed from PCNA (Pass Certificate Not Awarded) to PCA (Pass Certificate Awarded), must return the previous Statement of Marks in original to the CISCE through their School. On receipt of the same, the revised Statement of Marks & Pass Certificate will be sent to the candidates’ School.
  • Candidates who are unsuccessful in the Compartment Examination and do not qualify for the award of a Pass Certificate must also return their Original Statement of Marks to the CISCE through their School and will be issued a revised Statement of Marks which will reflect the updated result of the candidate as per the CISCE’s record.
  • Those candidates who are not successful or are absent at the Compartment Examination will be required to re-appear in all the subjects for which he/she is registered, in the following year's February - March Examination.
  • The unsuccessful candidates will be permitted to re-appear for the examination once only in the following year, but not thereafter, without further attendance at an affiliated and registered School.

Students need to have perfect knowledge of the ICSE 10th Grading System 2025 so that they can calculate their scores accordingly. Make sure to always calculate your percentage based on the grading score that you have achieved in the different subjects included in your curriculum. The results will be available in May 2025 after the complete conclusion of the board exams.

What happens if I get a 9 grade in ICSE 10th English 2024?

As per the ICSE 10th Grading System 2024, if any student gets an 8 or 9 grade then he/she will be considered as a failing student. In ICSE 10th, the students must pass in English so if you fail to get a passing grade in English then you will have to repeat your academic year. Students are not allowed to take a compartment exam in English. 

What if I get a failing grade in ICSE 10th Grading System 2024?

Students who get a failing grade in the ICSE 10th Grading System 2024 in any subject apart from English can appear for the compartment exam in June or July 2024. If they fail to appear in June or July then they can only appear in the following academic year once to pass the board exams.

No, ICSE 10th Grading System 2024 is the same for theory and practicals. However, CISCE has adopted a different grading system for internal exams in which there are grades available from A to E with A being the highest grade and E being the lowest rate.
