Following are the steps to compute the percentile rank:
- Step 1: Subtract the percentile from 100.
- Step 2: The result is multiplied by the total number of students in that category who took the exam.
- Step 3: In order to determine the rank, the number from Step 2 is divided by 100.
- Instead of only ranking the top 10 candidates, this system assigns a rank to each candidate who took the exam. Focusing on the group instead of the individual evaluation of marks makes determining a candidate's chances of admission to graduate school easier.
