CBSE Class 10 Grading System 2025 is a 9-point grading system with grades from A1 to E. A1 is the highest grade the students can achieve in the board exam. E Grade is for the students who failed to pass the minimum mark. The information about the grades achieved by the students will be mentioned in the results and the marksheet. CBSE has decided not to include the percentage of students in the CBSE Class 10 Result 2025 to avoid competition and unrealistic goals. CBSE provides grades according to the ranks of the students.

There are also specified grade points available to the students based on the marks that they are securing in the different subjects. Students can easily calculate their CGPA or their percentage through the help of the grade points and the grading systems specified by CBSE . Students can expect the result to be released in May 2025. The specific school authorities will distribute the original mark sheets a week after the results are released. A 9-scale system is followed by CBSE to grade the students in class 10th. A1 grade is provided to the top 1/8th of the passed students. Students can refer to the detailed grading system from the table given below:

CBSE Class 10 Grading System 2025: Guidelines

There are also some guidelines issued by CBSE based on the CBSE Class 10 Grading System 2025:

  • Minor variations in the proportions of the candidates to adjust a tie in the grading system will be made accordingly.
  • In case of a tie, all the students who have achieved the same number of marks will be given the same grade. If the number of students at a score point needs to be divided into two segments, the smaller segment will go with the larger one.
  • Method of grading will be used in subjects where the number of candidates who have passed is more than 500.
  • Concerning subjects where the total number of candidates passing a subject is less than 500, the grading would be adopted on the pattern of grading and distribution in other similar subjects.

CBSE Class 10 Grading System 2025 for Arts, Health, and Physical Education

In assessing the activities about arts, health, and physical education, CBSE introduced a 5- 5-point grading scale (A to E) that will be used for classes 9th and 10th, with no defined indicators. The students would be evaluated in two fields i.e. Art Education, Health, and Physical Education. Work Experience also counts in Physical and Health Education. There will be no upscaling of grades in these subjects.

CBSE Class 10 Passing Criteria 2025

Students need to follow the following passing criteria as prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education to successfully pass:

  • To be eligible for the pass certificate, students must get a grade higher than E in all the subjects of internal assessment unless they were exempted from the paper. Failing this, the result of the external examination will be withheld but not for more than one year.
  • To be declared as having passed the examination, a candidate shall obtain a grade higher than E (i.e. at least 33% marks) in all the five subjects of external examination in the main or at the compartmental examinations. The pass marks in each subject of external examination shall be 33%.
  • No overall division/distinction/aggregate shall be awarded.
  • In respect of a candidate offering an additional subject, the following norms shall be applied:
  • (a) A language offered as an additional subject may replace a language in the event of a candidate failing in the same provided after replacement the candidate has English/Hindi as one of the languages; and
  • (b) The replacement shall satisfy the conditions as laid down in the Scheme of Studies for appearing in the external examination and the result shall be declared subject to fulfillment of other conditions laid down in the Pass Criteria.

CBSE Class 10 Grading System 2025: How To Calculate Percentage?

Students can easily calculate their percentage using the grade points that will appear in their results by following the simple procedure given below:

  • Step 1: Add all the grade points for the subjects that you have appeared in the board exams.
  • Step 2: Divide the sum by 5.
  • Step 3: You have to now multiply the amount by 9.5 to get your percentage.
