CBSE Class 12 Grading System 2025: Key Points

  • Some variations can be done by CBSE if there is a tie according to the grading system.
  • In case of a tie, all the students getting the same score will get the same grade.
  • If the number of students at a score point needs to be divided into two segments, the smaller segment will go with the larger one.
  • The method of grading will be used in subjects where the number of candidates who have passed is more than 500.
  • For subjects where the total number of candidates passing a subject is less than 500, the grading would be adopted on the pattern of grading and distribution in other similar subjects

CBSE Class 12 Grading System 2025: CGPA Calculator and Conversion

In addition to this CBSE grading system, a student also secures a CGPA score (cumulative grade point assessment), which defines the average of grade points in all main subjects. CGPA (Cumulative grade point average) is a method of evaluation based on the grading system. Precisely, CGPA is the grade point average of a student.

How to calculate percentages using Grade Points for CBSE Class 12th?

To calculate the percentage using the CBSE Class 12 Grading System 2025, add the grade points for the five main subjects and then divide the sum by 5. The last step is to multiply the average grade point by 9.5, and the value thus obtained will be the required Percentage. For example, suppose a CBSE Board student secures the following grade points for the five main subjects

CBSE Board Subjects

Grade Points

SUBJECT 1

9

SUBJECT 2

8

SUBJECT 3

9

SUBJECT 4

6

SUBJECT 5

8

TOTAL

Now, the following steps are to be followed to calculate the CGPA:

  • Add the grade points, i.e 9+8+9+6+8 = 40
  • Divide the sum by 5 i.e 40/5 = 8
  • Hence, the CGPA obtained is 8.0

CBSE Class 12 Grading System 2025: Advantages and Disadvantages

The CGPA system has been a dubious method when it comes to the assessment of the academics of a student. A comparative analysis of the merits and demerits of the CGPA system is provided below.

Merits of CGPA System

  • The CGPA system helps the students to analyze their strengths and weaknesses and ultimately helps them to improve.
  • The CGPA system releases the pressure of getting high marks as the numerical marks are not indicated on the report card.

Demerits of the CGPA System

  • The CGPA system does not reflect the actual performance of a student. More or less, it indicates the approximate performance.
  • Since CGPA is formatted as a grading system, students tend to perform under their potential because they know that they can obtain the targeted grade even by committing a few mistakes as the grade band is of commendable size.
Students can easily calculate their percentage by using the CBSE Class 12 Grading System 2025. Since CBSE will not provide any numerical score included in the result, the students are responsible for calculating their percentage to gain admission to further colleges or to take competitive exams.
