CBSE Class 12 Compartment Eligibility Criteria 2025
You can follow the following eligibility criteria to successfully sit for the CBSE Class 12 Compartment Exam 2025:
- A candidate failing in two of the five subjects of external examination shall be placed in a compartment in those subjects provided he/she qualifies in all the subjects of internal assessment.
- Regular students who appeared in the Board’s Examinations through schools affiliated with the Board and declared as COMPARTMENT are eligible to apply only in one subject in which they are placed in the Compartment.
- Regular students who appeared in the Board’s Examinations through schools affiliated with the Board with 6 subjects and placed in COMPARTMENT in two subjects are eligible to apply in any one of the two subjects in which they were placed in the Compartment.
- Regular students who appeared in 6 subjects in the Board’s Examinations and declared PASS but could not clear one subject can appear in the failed subject under the Improvement of the Performance category only in the subjects whose examinations will be conducted.
- Regular students who appeared in the Board’s Examinations and declared PASS can appear in any one subject under the Improvement of the Performance category only in the subjects whose examinations will be conducted.

The application fee is to be submitted along with the application form online. Regular students can also submit the application fee to the school authorities directly.

CBSE Class 12 Compartment Fee Payment Method 2025
You can pay the application fee by following the methods mentioned below:
- Fee for all activities is accepted only through digital payment modes as per the below-given details by CBSE: In India – Debit Card / Credit Card / NEFT / RTGS, Foreign – Debit Card / Credit Card / SWIFT
- Before payment of the fee, schools can take the print of LOC in the form of a checklist. Once the fee is paid, the final LOC will be printed, and no correction can be made in the online or offline mode thereafter.
- As SWIFT updation may take 4–5 days, hence, schools situated outside India are advised to complete their process including payment of the fee in such a way that their process is over before the last date.
- In case of bank-related transactions or non-updation of Fees on the server, the schools should contact the respective bank through which payment was made. Generally, Bank shall require the following information to resolve the issue of updation of fees hence, be kept ready before getting in touch with the Bank:-
- (i) Mode of Payment
- (ii) Fee Reference No.
- (iii) Amount deposited
- (iv) Date of deposit
- (v) Branch where the amount was deposited
- (vi) Bank reference number (Transaction ID as reflected in Bank account)
- (vii) Your contact number

How To Fill Out The CBSE Class 12 Compartment Form 2025?
Regular students can take the help of their school premises to fill out the CBSE Class 12 Compartment Form 2025 successfully. The application fee can also be submitted directly to the school premises only. Private students can follow the simple procedure given below to fill out the compartment form:
- Step 1: You will first have to visit the official CBSE online portal at cbseit.in/cbse/web/pvtform/
- Step 2: The home page will open on your screen where you have to click on the option called “Application from Private Candidates.”
- Step 3: The application form will open on your screen. Now, enter the information, such as your roll number, subjects, registration number, etc.
- Step 4: Pay the application fee according to the number of subjects using a debit or credit card. You can also use net banking.
- Step 5: After successfully filling out the application form, you are required to keep the acknowledgment number safe for future use.
CBSE Class 12 Compartment Guidelines 2025
The following guidelines are published by the Central Board of Secondary Education under the compartmental exams:
- If you are placed in the compartmental category, then you may appear for the exam to be held in July. If not, then you can appear for the second chance in the next year, which is in February or March. Another chance will be provided to the students in which they can appear for the compartmental examinations to be held in July of the next year. In conclusion, a total of three chances will be provided to the students placed in the compartmental category to pass the board exams.
- The candidate will be declared 'Pass' provided he/she passes the compartmental subject/subjects in which he/she had failed.
- If you fail to appear for all the chances of the compartmental exam, then you will be treated as having failed the examination, and you will be required to reappear in all the subjects at the subsequent annual examination according to the changes made to the curriculum and the courses by CBSE.
- The candidate shall have the option to appear at the practical examination in the subjects involving practicals or retain their previous marks in one more annual examination after the Third Chance Compartment.
- The syllabus and the exam pattern for the compartment exam are the same as for the main exams.
- A candidate placed in a compartment shall be allowed to appear only in those subjects in which he/she has been placed in a compartment at the Second Chance Compartmental Examination to be held in March/April next year.
- For subjects involving practical work, in case the candidate has passed the practical at the main examination, he/she shall appear only in the theory part, and previous practical marks will be carried forward and accounted for. In case a candidate has failed in practical, he/she shall have to appear in theory and practical irrespective of the fact that he/she has already cleared the theory examination.
