What is CGPA?
Cumulative Grade Point Average is referred to as CGPA. It is the average of a student's grade points in all subjects, except the additional sixth subject. The following grading system is used in the CBSE Board Exam Results to assess students' academic performance:Marks Range | Grades | Grade Point |
---|---|---|
91-100 | A1 | 10 |
81-90 | A2 | 9 |
71-80 | B1 | 8 |
61-70 | B2 | 7 |
51-60 | C1 | 6 |
41-50 | C2 | 5 |
33-40 | D | 4 |
According to the CBSE Grading System 2024 For Class 10th , a D is the minimum grade needed to pass the board examination. Students who obtain grades E1 or E2 must retake the exams in the failed subjects to pass.
Calculating CGPA from Grade Points
The subject grade points (GPs) achieved in the CBSE results will quickly show your CGPA. The five GPs' aggregate scores, excluding the extra subjects, should be added. The CGPA is then calculated by multiplying the total by 5.For example,
Let GPs scored by you in 5 subjects be:
- Science- 9
- Maths- 8
- English- 7.5
- Hindi- 9
- Social Science- 7
The sum of the Grade Points = 9+8+7.5+9+7= 40.5
Thus CGPA=40.5/5= 8.1
Formula to Convert CGPA into Percentage
Simply multiply the CGPA by 9.5 to calculate the percentage from the CGPA.
Overall Percentage of Marks= CGPA * 9.5 |
---|
Why 9.5 is used in the CGPA to Percentage formula?
This 9.5 represents the average score attained by the previous year's top CBSE students. The Board determined the average marks of all candidates who obtained scores between 91 and 100 by examining the results from the preceding five years. It turned out that the average was about 95 points. As the corresponding Grade Point for the marks range 91-100 (A1 grade) is 10, 95 was divided by 10. Then the final average score was 9.5. Thus, the three-step process to calculate a percentage from a CGPA is as follows:- 1. Add grade Points for all 5 Subjects
- 2. Divide the total grade point by 5. This gives your CGPA
- 3. Multiply CGPA by 9.5. It will give your overall percentage.
