ISD Full Form

ISD full form is International Subscriber Dialing. It is a code that is used for making outgoing International calls from India. The ISD is also known as the Country code which is used for making direct calls abroad. Earlier the term was only used by Australia and UK but later it got renamed to International Direct Dial (IDD).

What is the Full Form of ISD?

As mentioned above the full form of ISD is International Subscriber Dialing. The ISD is used in the International telecommunication system which aims to ease the communication process between people from different countries. The ISD is also termed as International Direct Dialing (IDD). Each country has its own ISD. All users before calling internationally have to add the code of that country in the beginning of the telephone number. The caller prior to dialing the country code has to start with a + sign e.g. +91 (Code of India) because the + sign indicates that the sign is followed by a country code. During the late 20th century the world witnessed the maximum number of international calls. 

History of ISD? 

• The concept of ISD was proposed in 1957 in Dedham. 
• The codes were made by the World Union and an international numbering plan was also introduced.
• Nation codes starting with the + sign begin to be used before dialing the number internationally.

What is the Difference Between ISD, STD & PCO 

ISD: ISD offers international calls without interference from any operator.

STD: The full form of STD is Subscriber trunk dialing. The term only refers to telephonic communication among callers belonging to the same country and is also known as trunk calling. As for calling the caller has to dial the STD number and in this process no mediator or operator is required. Through  STD, the caller can't make international calls.

PCO: The full form of PCO is Public Telephone Booth, which is used for calling users who don't have personal phones. Therefore they have to visit PCOs which are located in various areas across cities.
