BHIM Full form is Bharat Interface for Money which is based on the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and works on all major Android and iOS devices for carrying out the payment. BHIM was launched on 30 December 2016, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a ‘Digi Dhan Mela’ conducted in Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. As per the data till 31 December 2022, the app had been installed by around 204.34 Mn people. The app allows people to make simple, easy and quick payment transactions through UPI. Moreover, bank-to-bank money transfers and payment of money through a mobile number or Virtual Payment Address (VPA) is also possible through the app

 

What is BHIM Full Form?

BHIM, the full form of which is Bharat Interface for Money is an initiative of the Government of India to promote digital payments. The app is named after Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, who was the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. The app is available to download in 11 languages and can be used on all android devices. Since its launch and inception, The Government of India is now promoting the use of BHIM through a nationwide campaign called “Digi Dhan Abhiyan”. Under this campaign, citizens are being encouraged to use digital payment methods such as BHIM to make their payments and opt for cashless transactions.

  1. From the Google Play Store, download and install the BHIM app
  2. Open the app and select your preferred language
  3. Allow app to manage and receive SMS and Phone calls
  4. If you have a dual Sim on your phone, you will be asked to verify your mobile number registered with your bank account. SMS will be sent for the auto-verification process. The SIM of your registered number should be present on your mobile phone.
  5. Create a unique four-digit Passcode that is easy to remember to log into the app and re-enter the passcode to confirm it
  6. Select your UPI-enabled bank from the provided list of banks
  7. Your bank account will be automatically received and register yourself by providing your debit card details
  8. After connecting the account successfully, the BHIM app home page will be displayed
  9. Your account is now registered and is ready to use to carry out transactions.

BHIM app supports multiple features to facilitate the transactions. Few of the features of BHIM are mentioned below:

  • Send and Request Money: BHIM allows you to send money through a VPA, full form of which is Virtual Payment Address , Account Number and IFSC code, Aadhar Number, or QR code. You can also receive money by entering your Virtual Payment Address (VPA).
  • Scan and Pay: You can pay money by scanning the available QR code and can also generate a QR code to receive payments.
  • Checking Transactions: The transaction option allows you to check transaction history and pending UPI collect requests. You can also raise a complaint if a transaction declines by clicking on Report issue which can be resolved.
  • Profile: You can view the static QR code and payment addresses and can share the QR code through various messenger applications like WhatsApp, Email etc.
  • Checking Bank Account: You can view the linked Bank accounts and set or change the UPI PIN as per your choice. You can also change the bank account, check the account balance and carry out various functions.
  • Language: This app is available in regional languages to improve user experience and provide comfort in understanding.
  • Blocking User: You can block users who are frequently sending collect requests or unknown requests.
  • Privacy: If a second UPI ID is created, provide users with the option to disable and enable them to carry further transactions with security.
  • Creating IPO through BHIM: To apply for an IPO, fill out the IPO application with your BHIM UPI ID and then continue by approving the BHIM app.
  • Bill Payments on BHIM: In-app utility bill payments are supported by the BHIM app, which enables users to pay bills (electricity, water, gas etc) via BHIM BillPay.
  • UPI AUTOPAY: With any UPI-enabled app, you can now enable periodic e-mandates or pop-up notifications for expenses like mobile bills, power bills, EMI payments, entertainment/OTT subscriptions, insurance, mutual funds and more.
