IB Full Form

IB full form is Intelligence Bureau.  It’s India's internal intelligence department that mostly deals with counter-intelligence and internal security matters. What is IB Full Form?

IB full form is Intelligence Bureau. It’s a secret agency which is formed under the ministry of Home Affairs. The main agenda of the intelligence bureau is to work for India’s internal security and manage internal affairs. One of the main agendas of the IB is to work everyday and every hour to prevent and eliminate terrorist attacks. Along with the powers it has, IB has a maximum amount of confidentiality in the field. They can be employed in various sectors like RAW, Airport Protection department, CRPF and other departments of internal security. A Brief History of IB

The foundation of the IB programme was developed by Marie Therese Maurette in 1948. Earlier, it was the International Schools Examination Syndicate (ISES) which was founded in 1960 by a group of educators. Lanter, it evolved into International Baccalaureate Office (IBO), then International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and eventually it became International Baccalaureate (IB). Currently, the curriculum and course model is spread worldwide. 

At first, the International Baccalaureate Organization was known as IB. Its headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland. It is a non-profit organization. The motto of IB institution is “Truth and Knowledge”. The course offers education to children of different age groups. 

• The IB was formally established in the year 1887 and was named “Central Special Branch”. It is one of the oldest intelligence organisations in the world.

• It was set up in two divisions in 1968, the “Research and Analysis Wing”, which was assigned foreign intelligence and IB was assigned the task of mainly internal intelligence and security.

• Initially, IB was active both in the matters of internal and external affairs. After failure of two missions due to coordination, supposedly, one in 1962 during Sino-Indian War and another one during India-Pakistan War (1965), the external branch was handed over to the research and analysis wing which was newly inaugurated then.

Ranks in Intelligence Bureau

Main Roles of IB

The roles of IB are extended in various aspects. From reducing the nation’s security threat to protecting the various information, IB officers are trained and skilled according to their job role. Few of the roles of IB are given below:

• An Indian Police Service officer or serving IPS officer are always appointed as the director of the IB.
• The life of an IB officer is meted with potential risks and plenty of compromises.
• IB helps in communicating and transferring intelligence information between police and various other Indian intelligence agencies.
• It gives necessary clearances and approval from a security perspective to Indian diplomats and judges before taking an oath.
• It is authorized to wiretap without the release of a warrant.
• It works relentlessly to eliminate any security threat or terror attacks.
• Subsidiary branches, known as SIBs, full form of which is the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau are also included in the IB. They are presided at the state level by an officer of the grade of Joint Director or above or Deputy Directors in case of smaller SIBs.

Strategies and Work Culture of IB

The main work culture includes secrecy and maintaining confidentiality at its ultimate level. There are various achievements included in the department which are highly confidential. However, in a situation of deep crisis, IB has the audacity to contract or face the media conferences. Bureau can even work or search a place without any warrant release. It works in a method that the other operative systems stay alert before any attacks happen. However, it’s not possible for an agency to work so perfectly that every attack is alarmed or eliminated before taking place. For example, The Mumbai 2008 attack was one of the incidents of a failed mechanism. Though it is reported officially through various departments that the IB repeatedly alarmed the headquarters about the attack.

Limitations of IB

The people, as some regular individuals cannot know about the limitations or how the IB and other related agencies carry out the work. However, only specific data available on the internet can provide some ideas about it. It is argued that IB officers have a lot of limitations and boundaries regarding their work if compared to the RAW agents. They even stay undercover like a shopkeeper or a simple individual most of the time especially in the field survey. In times of any crisis, they are directly recruited by the RAW to work like an agent in their agency. All these sacrifices and the dedications towards the country of an undercover agent often stay unknown, declassified or unaware to the people. They cannot work or involve themselves in any type of political organizations, media and other organizing bodies which do not come under the jurisprudence of the Central Government.

There have been a lot of changes and reforms undertaken since the inauguration of IB and other secret agencies. Still there are several things and matters to look for. The infrastructure and ecosystem of attaining better and refined intelligence capabilities is still under question. It is the need of the hour to provide a transparent, accountable and fair sense of investigation process.

Other Full Form of IB

The other full form of IB is International Baccalaureate. The IB offers a uniform pattern of education worldwide and engages the students with real world opportunity. In the IB form of education system, the elected Board of Governor is responsible for overseeing the finances, appointment of Director General, managing organizational strategy, formulating policies, ensuring objectivity of students assessments.
