CI full form is Circle Inspector. The position of CI is coveted in government sector jobs. CI holds the highest rank of a police officer in the specific state or union territory. Also, the CI acts as a head to all the police forces in the given state or union territory. The CI assumes the position after qualifying the National level examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
CI Full Form is Circle Inspector. CI has various administrative powers applicable for maintaining the law and orders of the society and controlling the chaos and disturbance in the society. With several years of experience in police service, the officers are eligible for the post of Circle Inspector. Role and Responsibility of CI
CI is the subordinate officer to the Superintendent of Police (SP). CI aids the Superintendent of Police and oversees all police department operations, including crime prevention, police station management, investigative control etc. The key responsibilities of CI are as follows:

One of the key responsibilities is to manage large-scale arrangements. For example, if a large gathering or event is planned in the region, it is a CI’s responsibility to ensure that everything is in order and that no criminal or crime interferes with the event.
General Duties of CI
A Circle Inspector is in charge of a circle (which usually comprises two or more police stations) and is responsible for the prevention and the crime detection, supervision, administration and retain the efficiency of police.
The CI must reside within the circle and take the accountability of the instances going on within the jurisdiction of his/her station in charge.
For the maintenance of proper peace and stability, the CI plays an important role in adjudicating matters.
In case of special investigation such as mismanagement by the investigating officer or the cases including internal compilation, the CI takes up and supervises the case.

The touring plays an important role in the working process of CI. Work related tours help in zoning, identifying and collecting evidence regarding the case.
The CI must inform the police station regarding the tour programme and his absence from the office and also to the police station he/she will be visiting to carry out the work.
Each circle officer under the authority is allowed the shared responsibility of duties with Assistant Sub-Inspector by assisting him in various activities. The activities include looking into the orders passed by the inspectors and passing the investigation status to him.
The CI must take the responsibility of investigating the cases and correct the faults in the ongoing investigation. In case of noticing any fault, the report should be submitted to the Superintendent of Police in a definite format.

How to Become a CI?
The candidate who aspires to become CI has to appear for the state-level exam that is conducted by the State Public Service Commission. The examination for CI is particularly considered as tough in nature as it is conducted in several processes. Only a candidate who qualifies all the stages of the exam is eligible for recruitment to the specific post. The various process of the exam that is conducted for the recruitment to the CI post includes three stages:
Written Exam - conducted in two levels: Preliminary and Mains
Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Interview and Medical Test
Candidates are also required to undergo probationary training and gain practical level of knowledge before they get posted as Circle Inspector.
Eligibility Criteria for Circle Inspector
To become a Circle Inspector, one must fulfill the criteria which is listed below:
Applicants must be citizens of India
Applicants must have graduated from a recognised board or educational institution in any stream
The applicant must be between the age of 21 and 30. The upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST applicants
Male candidates must be at least 168 centimeters tall, while female applicants must be at least 155 centimeters tall in figure
A minimum chest measurement of 84 centimeters is required for males, with a maximum expansion up to 5 millimeters
Before applying for the exam to become the Circle Inspector, the candidates must also ensure that they fulfill all the required eligibility criteria
