ITI Full Form is Industrial Training Institute. ITI Admission, Industrial Training Institutes and Industrial Training Centers are post-secondary schools in India constituted under Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET). Admission to the various courses is done every year in the month of August. Training periods range from six months to two years in over 130 different specialties. Prerequisites for the courses range from 8th to 12th class pass. Upon completion of the training, trainees write the All India Trade Test (AITT). Successful candidates receive the National Trade Certificate (NTC). There are 14312 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) functioning in the country (2204 Government and 12108 Private ITIs), affiliated with the National Council of Vocational Training. The Directorate General of Training (DGT) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship(MSDE), has been making continuous efforts to improve the quality of training in these existing Institutes and providing the technology in new institutes as well.

Eligibility Criteria for ITI

The Eligibility Criteria for ITI examination is:

  • Minimum of 10th or 12th pass from any recognized board
  • The marks obtained should be 35% aggregate
  • The age of the candidate should not exceed 40 years as upper age limit and 14 years lower age limit
  • For most of the state government ITI colleges, candidate have to qualify the different state ITI entrance exams

How many Types of ITI Courses are available?

There are two specific types of ITI courses available for the students:

  • Engineering ITI Course

Engineering ITI courses are those in which the student has to read engineering-related subjects. The subjects included are Mathematics, Physics and various other Technical Papers. Studying Engineering ITI course also provides advantages in various engineering exams in higher degree.

  • Non-Engineering ITI Course

In non-engineering courses, students are supposed to learn the solid structure of technical subjects. Learning soft-skills and daily-life related subjects are given primary importance. The Non-Engineering ITI course requires soft skills, language skills, job-specific abilities etc. The course structure varies from Hair and skin care course, cutting and sewing, leather goods maker, fashion design etc.

ITI Exam Patterns and Syllabus

The ITI exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions (MCQs) which have to be attempted in the duration of 3 hours. The questions are asked mainly from:

ITI Seat Reservations

For the underprivileged section of the society, seats at the ITI are reserved. The reservation of seats according to the category are given below:

  • Seats are reserved for students belonging to SC, ST or OBC categories (as per their percentage in the states)
  • 25% of the seats are reserved for female candidates
  •  3% reservation is for physically challenged person
