GPSC, full form of which is Gujarat Public Service Commission exam is the highest reputed and recognized exam for Gujarat state service commission. More than 3 lakhs aspirants apply for prelims exams conducted for 1000-2000 posts. GPSC exam is the toughest exam in the Gujarat state level. What are the Functions of GPSC?

The Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) is bound to perform certain duties and functions as mentioned in Article 320 of the Indian Constitution. The primary functions of GPSC are as follows-

  1. To conduct exams for recruitment to the state services.
  2. To advise on matter concerning -
    1. Different ways to recruit members to various services of the state
    2. Rules and regulations that are meant to be followed while recruiting the candidates to the post of state civil services in addition to granting promotions, ordering inter-service transfers and selecting the worthy candidate for such appointments, promotions and transfers.
    3. Looking into the disciplinary matters that have an effect on the Government service providers.
    4. The ownership of the reimbursements of the legal expenditure done by the government servant in defending them in the legal procedures initiated against them while they were still on duty.
    5. On the bills claiming for receiving injury pension to the government officer
    6. On any other information or matter having connection or referred to the Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) by the governor of the state.

GPSC Eligibility Criteria

  • A Bachelor Degree from a recognized University or Institution is required to be eligible for Gujarat Civil Services Exam 2023
  • The age limit should be between 20 to 35 Years
  • Reserved candidates will get the age relaxation as per GPSC regulations

GPSC Age Eligibility

To be eligible to appear in the GPSC exam, the candidate must meet the eligibility criteria. The reserved category candidate receives an age relaxation of a few years. The category-wise age relaxation of GOSC candidates are mentioned in the table below:

  • Relaxation of entire military years and also additional relaxation of 3 years given on the condition that the candidate must have served in the military for 5 years

Candidates belonging to PwD Category

Relaxation of 10 years on producing the certificate of disability

GPSC Application Fee

The candidate filling the GPSC application form should pay the application fees. The candidate belonging to the general/unreserved category will have to pay an online payment of INR 100. After paying the GPSC application fee, the application form will be considered complete. Without paying the application fee, the application form submission will be considered as incomplete. Few categories are exempted from paying the examination fees. The categories of candidates who are exempted from paying fees are :

  •  SC, ST and economically disadvantaged Gujrati group
  • Ex-servicemen who are physically disabled are exempted from application and examination expenses for class 3 promotions. However, they are not exempted for Class- 1 and Class- 2 positions.

GPSC Exam Structure

The GPSC exam is held in three respective rounds. The candidates passing the Prelims Exam are eligible to appear for the Mains and the interview round followed by. The information about  the 3 rounds of GPSC Exam are mentioned below:

1. GPSC Prelims Exam

The Prelims Exam consists of 2 general papers which are of screening type only. The marks obtained in the exam are not considered for the final merit list. The question type of exam is objective type.

2. GPSC Mains Exam

Candidates who have qualified the GPSC Prelims Exam will be eligible to appear for the mains exam. The GPSC Mains exam has a total of 6 subjects. The nature of exams are written and the questions are subjective.

3. Interview

The candidates qualifying for the Mains exam are eligible to take the final interview round which is also known as a personality test. The scores of mains and interview will be added to get final scores of a candidate and then a final merit list will be generated.

Candidates are supposed to strategize and plan accordingly before they begin preparation for the exams focussing on their own study method. A few useful preparation tips helping students to achieve high scores in the exam are mentioned below:

  • Candidates should learn the fundamentals and clear the basics of all subjects by referring to Gujarat state syllabus textbooks, especially for English, general science and social science books.
  • Understand the syllabus of prelims and mains completely before preparation
